on December 28, 2021, in

Rapid City, SD, at Monu-

ment Health Hospital in

Rapid City. Interment will

be at the Pleasant Hill

Cemetery, Blunt, SD, on

July 12, 2022.

Karen Lynn McFar-

land-Buchholz was born

on January 14, 1950, in

Fairborn, Ohio, to George

Otis McFarland and

Dorothy May Blew. Being

a military family, the

McFarland’s lived in

Ohio, Germany, Tennes-

see, Florida and finally

Minot, ND. Karen was ac-

tive in school. She gra-

duated from Minot State

University in 1972 taught

Science at Streeter and

Crary, North Dakota be-

fore going to Edgemont,

South Dakota, again to

teach Science. There, she

met, then married Terry

Lee Buchholz on February

12, 1982. They both

taught in Edgemont for

several years. Next, Terry

and Karen moved to Sum-

mit, SD, to teach for 3

years before moving to

Del Rio, TX where Karen

taught Science for 23

years.

Karen is survived by

her husband, Terry; sister

JoAnn (Chuck) Dunsmore;

sister Sharlayne Dragone;

brother Michael McFar-

land; sister Cheryl (Vence)

Nickey, as well as several

nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in

death by her parents;

sister-in-law, Barb McFar-

land; half brother George

Junior McFarland; half

brother, Reuben McFar-

land and half sister, Ton-

delayo Jackson.
