Rosie Clementich Solem Zahn

July 12, 1932-March 18, 2022

Rosie Zahn, 89, Minot,

ND, formerly of Carpio,

ND, entered her eternal

home March 18, 2022.

She was born July 12,

1932, in Minot, the

daughter of John and

Edith (Drake) Lithman-

chuk. They lived in Bril-

lion, a small mining town

outside of Velva.

On January 15, 1951,

she married Orvin Clem-

entich in the St. Leo’s

Catholic Church in Minot.

Shortly after their wed-

ding, Orvin served in the

Korean War for 2 years

while Rosie was left to

raise their son, Bob, with

the help of her father-

in-law. After Orvin re-

turned home from war,

they lived on a farm north

of Lake Darling Dam,

growing grain crops and

they also had dairy cattle,

chickens and pigs. They

had 3 children, Bob, Cin-

dy and Shelli. The opera-

tion of the farm would

often be Rosie’s responsi-

bility when Orvin was out

of town working on the oil

rigs. In 1977, they retired

from farming and moved

to Carpio.

After Orvin passed

away in 1987, Rosie met

and married Irwin Solem

in 1988 in the Carpio

Lutheran Church. Irwin

had 4 children who she

welcomed as her own.

She worked for the City of

Carpio for 15 years doing

snow removal, mowing,

and managing the city

landfill. She lovingly

cared for Irwin after his

stroke until he passed in

2000. In 2006, she mar-

ried Wayne Zahn, also in

the Carpio Lutheran

Church. She was blessed

to have his adult son and

daughter and children be-

come a part of her family

also.

Rosie loved spending

time with her family and

didn’t know the meaning

of idle hands. Her hobbies

were many and her talent

was phenomenal. Bowling

and fishing were always a

priority. She was gen-

erous in sharing her crea-

tions with family and

friends and even strangers

as she crafted and donat-

ed hats to the hospital

nursery, colostomy bag

covers for cancer patients

and masks for healthcare

workers during Covid.

She never turned down a

request to custom make a

special project or just

patch a hole on a favorite

jacket. She enjoyed her

travels overseas with her

daughter, Cindy. In her

spare time, for the past 12

years, she also worked for

Shelli doing miscellane-

ous secretarial duties.

In our mom’s earlier

years, she had struggles

and worked hard to make

a living. She didn’t com-

plain but rather just tack-

led things head on. She

taught us the importance

of family, perseverance,

gratitude, generosity, and

to not be scared of hard

work or long hours to

achieve our dreams. She

was a humble yet proud

person who will be greatly

missed by many.
