passed away on Tuesday,
January 11, 2022 at the
Trinity Health Hospital in
Minot, ND. Fulkerson

Ellen’s Funeral Service
will be held on Monday,
January 17th, 2022 at
11:00 am at Bethel Luth-
eran Church in
Battleview, ND. Pastor
Mike Olson will officiate.
Ellen will be laid to rest
Spring of 2022 at the
Battleview Cemetery in
Battleview, ND. A Family
& Friends Service will be
held at 5:00 PM at the
Bethel Lutheran Church
in Battleview on Sunday,
January 16th, 2022. Visi-
tation will be held at the
Bethel Lutheran Church
in Battleview on Sunday,
January 16, 2022 from
3:00 PM to 5:00 PM and
one hour prior to service.

Ellen Ruth Berg was
born February 4, 1926, the
seventh child of Martin
and Kirsti Berg, on their
homestead north of Battle
View, ND. She was bap-
tized on February 26,
1926. Ellen attended
Pleasant View Grade
School. She also attended
catechism and Bible study
classes and was con-
firmed at Scandia Luth-
eran Church in 1938. El-
len graduated from
Columbus High School in
May 1944.
Ellen obtained a teach-
ing certificate from Minot
State Teacher’s College
and taught school in
Pleasant View grade
school. Her last year of
teaching was 1949.
She married Donald
Carlson from Battle View
country on July 7, 1946 at
Scandia Lutheran Church.
After the wedding they
moved to the Carlson fam-
ily farm. After retirement
they moved to Powers
Lake, ND. Donald passed
away October 15, 1989.
She then moved to Wel-
lington Assisted Living
Facility and later Maple
View Memory Care in
Minot ND.
Ellen and Donald had
three beloved children:
Karen (Bob) Holte, Minot,
Debra (Rick) Carlson,
Grand Forks, and Mark
Carlson, Battle View.
She was dedicated to
her family and faith. Ellen
loved music, singing in
choir, playing the organ or
piano, cooking, baking,
needlework, sewing, and
quilting. She liked to stay
busy. Ellen was a Sunday
school teacher, church pi-
anist, member of Ladies
Aid, and quilter at Bethel
Lutheran Church in Battle
View.
Ellen is survived by her
children, Karen (Bob)
Holte, Minot, Debra (Rick)
Carlson, Grand Forks, and
Mark Carlson, Battle
View, sisters Borghild
Berg, California, and Irene
Hellekson, Bismarck, ND;
grandchildren, Lindsey
(Jordan) Jensen, Powers
Lake, and Cassie (Zach)
Kemmer, Bismarck, ND,
and great- grandchildren,
Eastlin, Jace, Gage, and
Kyson Jensen, Henley and
Hoyt Kemmer, and
numerous nieces and
nephews.
Ellen was preceded in
death by her husband,
Donald; parents, Martin
and Kirsti Berg; her
in-laws, Hartvig and Dag-
ney Carlson; brothers, Od-
mar, Arnold, Magne,
Harold, and Kenneth; sis-
ters, Signe, Olga, and
Agnes; daughter-in-law,
Kristy Carlson;
brothers-in-law, Norman
Eggen, Harvey Carlson,
Jerry Hamerlik, Bob Hel-
lekson, Henry Carlson, Al-
bin Melberg, Elmer Mar-
tinson, Ed Sampson, Fred
Piper, Glenn Grote, Wil-
bur Carlson, Obert Carl-
son and Helmer Kristian-
son; sisters-in-law, Hazel,
Lyleen , and Doris Berg,
Hazel Melberg, Ruby Mar-
