passed away Sunday,
January 23, 2022 at the
Sheyenne Care Center,
Valley City. Funeral ser-
vices will be at 2:00 P.M.,
Friday, January 28, 2022
at St. Margaret Mary
Catholic Church, Drake.
Fr. Thomas Graner will
officiate and burial will be
in the St. Margaret Mary
Catholic Cemetery, Drake
in the spring. Visitation
will start at 12:30 P.M.
Friday with a rosary at
1:00 P.M. at the church.

Christine Heilman was
born July 6, 1928 near
Karlsruhe, North Dakota,
the daughter of Conrad
and Magdalena (Volk)
Heilman. She grew up
and attended school near
Karlsruhe. She later re-
ceived her teaching de-
gree from Minot State
University. She married
Joseph A. Schell on No-
vember 4, 1947 at
Karlsruhe. They made
their home at Drake,
where Christine taught
school in a one room
school house north of
Drake, where she taught
all grades for several
years. She later worked at
the Drake Creamery until
becoming the bookkeeper
at Farmers Union Oil
Company in Drake. After
Joe retired, she went to
work at the Cenex station
in Balta for two years.
Christine was a member
of St. Margaret Mary
Catholic Church and its
women’s group. She en-
joyed quilting, playing
cards, going out looking
for treasurers with her
metal detector, her big
garden, and was a
wonderful cook and had a
special recipe for her
homemade buns.
She is survived by her
sons, Gary (Sheila Olson),
Voltaire, ND, Kermit (Tru-
di Jaeger), Devils Lake,
and Randy (Ronda), Val-
ley City, sister Diane Idle,
Knoxville, TN, and broth-
er Phillip (Janice) Heil-
man, Minot, six
grandchildren and nine
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in
death by her parents, hus-
band, sister Joann Heintz,
and brothers, Leo, Con-
rad, and Larry.
