Steven Allan Holmes

Steve was raised in Towner, North Dakota, and graduated from Towner High School, the class of 1976. After graduation he went to work for the Burlington Northern Railroad. On June 23, 1984, he was united in marriage to Shelly Ellis at the Zion Lutheran Church in Towner. In 1991, he suffered injuries while working for the railroad which caused him to take disability retirement. Steve and Shelly then purchased the “Big Water Bottle Shop” in Parshall. They have owned and operated the business together for the past 27 years.

Steve enjoyed spending all of his time at his cabin in Vanhook where all of his friends and family would get together regularly. He enjoyed telling stories and jokes and he was at his happiest when he would make people laugh. One of Steve’s biggest joys in life was spoiling his grandson, Noah, and watching him explore and learn while trying to keep him out of the flowers. He had a passion for golfing, fishing, deer hunting, and relaxing while listening to music on his deck at the cabin with all of his closest friends.

He is survived by: his wife of 37 years, Shelly of Parshall; his son, Eric (Allie) and grandson, Noah, all of Ryder; a sister, Nancy Holmes of Florida; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by: his brothers, Bruce and David; and his parents, Wayne and Norma (Schiele) Holmes.

There will be a time of fellowship and lunch immediately following the burial at the Gallows on Main Street Towner.

Graveside Funeral Services: Monday, October 4th in the Berwick Community Cemetery, Berwick, North Dakota. Mr. Wally Fretland, officiate.
