Patrick Geary

Patrick Louis Geary,

born March 17, 1959, in

Belcourt, ND, passed

away at his home on Oc-

tober 24, 2021 of natural

causes. He was raised in

North Dakota and Tennes-

see for a short period of

time. He attended NDSU

Bottineau Branch and gra-

duated with an AA in

Pre-Law. He also attended

Minot State University

where he graduated with

an AA in Criminal Justice

and a Bachelor’s Degree in

Psychology with a Minor

in Addiction Studies. He

also was certified in Reali-

ty Therapy/Choice Theory

and went on to become a

Basic Week Instructor

with the William Glasser

Institute. He consulted on

the side for several years

helping companies and

agencies implement the

concepts of Reality Thera-

py and Control theory

into their programs. He

was employed by the

States of South Dakota

and Montana as a State

Narcotics Agent in his

early work years. He also

worked for the State of

North Dakota as a Ju-

venile Corrections Spe-

cialist with the Division of

Juvenile Services for over

10 years. He went on to

work for the ND Human

Service Centers in Minot,

ND first as a Case

Manager and then a

Licensed Addiction Coun-

selor. He accepted a

transfer to Northwest Hu-

man Service Center where

he was the Clinical Super-

visor, and he reesta-

blished the Addiction unit

there utilizing a unique

approach with Reality

Therapy and Control

Theory. He also worked

for the Three Affiliated

Tribes as Director of their

Addiction Program and

Trinity Hospital as a

Licensed Addiction

Counselor/Clinical Super-

visor. Patrick retired early

due to health reasons in

early 2016. Patrick was in-

volved with a Traditional

Native American Spiritual

lifestyle and spent many

years as a Sun dancer and

Sundance helper. Patrick

is preceded in death by

his brother, Andrew Page.

He has two children from

his first marriage, Monica

R. Geary and Matthew P.

Geary. He had six broth-

ers, Bruce Geary, Joseph

Geary, Ralph Geary, Har-

vey Ayers, and Hogan

Ayers and one sister, Jan-

ice Ayers. Patrick married

Beverly Selmek his loving

wife, in May of 2009 and

they spent their time to-

gether making their home

in Minot, ND and travel-

ing the United States to-

gether as often as they

could. They eventually

settled in Yuma, AZ for

the dry climate. Patrick

and Beverly enjoyed trav-

eling and seeing the sights

long the way.

Patrick’s wishes were to

be cremated with no for-

mal services.
