Joan Hiller
April 10, 1949-Sept. 9,2021
Joan Hiller, 72, Minot,
formerly of Rugby, died
Thursday, September 9,
2021, in a Minot Hospital.
Joan was born April 10,
1949, at Moorhead, Min-
nesota, the daughter of
Jerome and Mildred
(Solum) Sillerud. She was
raised and educated in
Rothsay, MN and graduat-
ed from Rothsay High
School in 1967. She at-
tended Golden Valley
Lutheran College in Gol-
den Valley, MN, graduat-
ing with a degree in Par-
ish Ministry.
Joan was placed with
that ministry, working at
Rugby, ND in 1969, where
she met Curt Hiller.
After a brief courtship
they were united in mar-
riage on November 1,
1970, at First Lutheran
Church in Rugby.
Joan and Curt lived in
Rugby until 1978, when
they moved to Minot.
Joan became employed as
an administrative assis-
tant for 25 years for Ward
County, working first with
the County tax depart-
ment and then for 21
years in the Ward County
Veteran’s Service Office.
She retired in 2005.
To many, Joan was a
“Prayer Warrior”, praying
for countless people in
the community and
abroad. She spent many
hours as the funeral lunch
coordinator at Our Redee-
mers Lutheran Brethren
Church. Joan loved the
days that she and Curt
could take their RV and
