Harriette Jorgenson
May 13, 1924-Sept. 27, 2021
Harriette Jorgenson, 97,
Minot, formerly of Ken-
mare and Powers Lake,
ND, died Monday, Sep-
tember 27, 2021 in a
Minot Healthcare facility.
Harriette was born on
May 13, 1924 in a small
building on main street in
Powers Lake ND, daughter
of Thorvald and Louise
(Thomsen) Barenthsen.
She started her education
in a country school speak-
ing only Danish language
and then graduating from
Powers Lake High School
in 1943.
She married Clifton Jor-
genson on December 6,
1946. Their first family
adventure started in
Battleview ND when they
purchased Martin
Johnson’s store which
they operated as
Jorgenson’s Hi-Lo Store.
In March 1953 they leased
the store and moved to
Sherwood where Clif
managed the Farmers Un-
ion station, delivered bulk
fuel and helped manage
Carl Krueger’s hardware
store. Early in 1960, they
moved to Powers Lake
where they owned Clif’s
Super Value. In Dec.
1967, having sold the gro-
cery store, they moved to
Kenmare and purchased
M. Ringen and Co.
hardware.
From the family busi-
ness interests throughout
the area was gained a
large amount of friend-
ships. Harriette’s outgoing
and generous personality
to all deserves her the
recognition of a grand and
gracious lady.
Mom experienced vi-
sion loss for the last 12
years due to Macular De-
generation (MD). Eventu-
ally she would recognize
people only by their
voices. Dad also lost his
vision to MD and recog-
nized people by their
voice.
She is survived by: son
Marty, daughter in-law
Patricia, grandson’s Jef-
frey and Jonathan, great-
grandchildren, Henry,
Max, Jacob, Anna and sis-
ter in-law Bernice
Barenthsen along with
several nieces and
nephews.
She is preceded in
death by: her parents, sis-
ter Lola, brother Alvin,
husband Clif and son
Jerome.
There will be a grave-
side service at Bethel
Lutheran Cemetery,
Powers Lake on her birth-
day, May 13, 2022.
