Glen Virgel Iverson
July 31, 1931-Sept. 4, 2021
Glen Virgel Iverson left
this world the same way
he came into it, fighting.
He was born too small on
July 31, 1931 to Bennie
and Nora Iverson, the
third of his four prede-
ceased siblings, Dolores,
Duaine and Audrey.
When the doctor visited
his mother after the birth,
he told her not to get at-
tached because he wasn’t
going to make it. His
mother made a bed for
him out of a shoe box and
kept him warm by placing
him on the lit oven door.
Glen died after a 9 year
battle with MDS, fighting
to keep living to the very
end.
After serving in the Air
Force during the Korean
War, Glen returned to
North Dakota to earn his
associates degree in elec-
tronics from Wahpeton
Technical School. He en-
joyed a long career in the
telephone business first at
Souris River Telephone in
Minot, ND and then fin-
ishing his career at West
River Telephone in
Hazen, ND, where he
made many long term
friendships.
Glen married Helen
Speidel Iverson, currently
of Elko, NV, in June of
1960 and they had two
children, Brian Glen Iver-
son of Spring Creek, NV
and Suzanne Vee Iverson
and her spouse Mary Dee
Hanson of Exeter, NH.
Glen loved, and was loved
by his grandchildren, RJ,
Ryan, Brianna and Cam-
eron, their spouses; his 8
great grandchildren and
his nieces and nephews.
Glen loved adventure,
traveling, hunting, fish-
ing, camping, golfing,
building, fixing anything
that needed to be fixed,
meeting new people,
entertaining, cooking on
the grill, shopping at yard
sales and laughing. He
had a great sense of
humor and a kind heart,
in addition to his stub-
born and ornery nature.
He was a Norwegian Vik-
ing to the end; stubborn,
strong and fighting for his
last breath and to stay in
this world he loved so
much. In his final days,
aside from his family, he
said his two greatest ac-
complishments were lead-
ing West River Telephone
through bringing cable TV
to Hazen, ND and working
on the approval and
building of the clubhouse
at the Hazen Golf Course.
He was a leader and en-
joyed leading the local
clubs he and Helen
belonged to on camping
trips and neighborhood
gatherings.
His ashes will be in-
terred at the Rugby North
Dakota Cemetery at a later
date. In lieu of flowers,
