MOHALL – Kathleen
Kopa, 80, of Mohall,
quietly passed Saturday,
July 31, 2021, surrounded
by friends and family, at
her home.
Kathleen was born
Sept. 6, 1940, to Frederick
and Sarah (Scanlin)
Smith, and raised in the
Bronx, N.Y. She excelled
in sports in high school,
once scoring 50 points in
a high school basketball
game. She married Frank
Kopa Sr. in 1964, and
they settled in Larchmont,
N.Y., where she worked
for an auto dealership. In
1972, they bought a small
convenience store in New
Rochelle, N.Y., from her
parents and were
self-employed there until
1988.
In 1988, Kathleen start-
ed working for the town
of Mamaroneck, N.Y., so-
cial services department
where she later became
the head of housing and
urban development, with
hundreds of clients. She
also organized and ran the
Meals on Wheels program
in Westchester County,
N.Y.
Kathleen and Frank re-
tired in 2003 and moved
to Mohall to be closer to
family. In retirement, she
served on the Mohall
housing committee board.
Kathleen enjoyed play-
ing cards, Scrabble,
watching sports, singing
during family music
night, cooking and baking
for family and friends and
spending time with family
and friends.

survived by her son,
Frank (Airianne) Kopa Jr.,
Mohall; grandchildren, Ju-
liette (Carson) Lawson,
Mohall, Frank Kopa III,
Minot, and Andrew Kopa,
Hutchinson, Kan.;
great-grandchildren, Til-
lie, Summer, Clayton,
Tyler, Greg and Silas; sis-
ter, Claire Smith, Bronx,
N.Y.
Kathleen was preceded
in death by: her husband,
Frank Kopa Sr., in 2006.
Funeral: 11 a.m., Sa-
turday, Aug. 7, 2021, at
St. Jerome Catholic
Church, Mohall. A link to

Burial: Haas Cemetery,
rural Antler.
