Joyce Atwood

TOLLEY – Joyce At-

wood, 84, rural Tolley,

died Wednesday, July 7,

2021, at a Kenmare hospi-

tal.

Joyce Annette Coughlin

was born June 24, 1937,

in Detroit Lakes, Minn., to

Reverend J.O. and Theres-

sa (Dahl) Coughlin. She

attended rural grade

school in Deer Park, Wis.,

Superior, Wis., and Page,

and graduated high school

from Velva. Joyce then at-

tended Lutheran Bible In-

stitute in Minneapolis,

Minn., and later graduat-

ed from Concordia Col-

lege, in Moorhead, Minn.

After college, she was em-

ployed as a parish worker

for Calvary Lutheran

Church in Grand Forks,

and also a parish worker

for Christ Lutheran

Church in Minot.

Joyce married Justin At-

wood on Oct. 17, 1965, at

Oak Valley Lutheran

Church in Velva. They

built their home on the

Atwood family farm north

of Tolley. Joyce was a

very active member of

Trinity Lutheran Church

of Tolley, where she was

organist for many years

and also a dedicated

member of the Lutheran

Women’s Missionary

League (L.W.M.L).

Joyce’s love for music

began at an early age. She

started teaching piano les-

sons at the age of 15 and

continued to teach many,

many enjoyable lessons

for over 65 years.

vived by her children,

Shawna (Mark Smith) At-

wood, Sherwood;

grandchildren, Brytin

Joyce was preceded in

day, July 10, 2021, at

Trinity Lutheran Church,

Tolley.

Burial: McKinney

Cemetery, rural Tolley.

the service time, Satur-

day, at the church.
