Helen H. Thompson,
Grand Forks, North Dako-
ta, formerly of Velva,
North Dakota, died July
12, 2021.
Helen, the daughter of
Mike and Clara Hubsky,
was born on the family
farm near Max, ND, on
September 5, 1927. She
grew up on the same farm
until boarding in Minot,
ND while attending high
school where she graduat-ed in 1945. She taught
school for a year at a one
room school and also per-
formed administrative
tasks for several em-
ployers.
On May 5, 1946, Helen
married Duane Thompson
and they made their home
in Velva where they
raised their five children,
Susan, David, Dwight,
Robert and Randall.
Duane and Helen owned
and operated several
businesses in the Velva
area where they were also
active in a number of
community activities and
lifelong members of the
Methodist Church.
Helen enjoyed cooking
and entertaining family
and friends over the
years. She was an avid
gardener, an accom-
plished cook, played
bridge, and was always
proud of family. She
spent many hours at their
kitchen table enjoying the
company of others.
She is survived by: her
daughter, Susan (Jim)
Dahle, Bottineau, ND;
sons, Dr. David (Zondra)
Thompson, Gales Ferry,
CT; Dwight (Ruth Ann
Bergan) Thompson, The
Villages, FL, Dr. Robert
(Patricia) Thompson,
Prescott, AZ, and Randall
(Kathy) Thompson, in
Woodbury, MN.; sister
Eileen Hubsky of Fergus
Falls, MN, nine grandchil-dren, and eight
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in
death by: her husband
Duane, parents Mike and
Clara Hubsky, brothers
Raymond, Charlie, Ar-
nold, Roy, and sisters
Evelyn Ribb, Marion Gre-
goire, and Georgina Jones.
In lieu of flowers,
memorials are preferred
for Valley Senior Living
Foundation in Grand
Forks or the Velva Metho-
dist Church.
