Lyanna Rae Van Sickle
July 30, 2020-May 4, 2021
Lyanna Rae Van Sickle,
Minot, ND, 9-month-old
infant daughter of Rae-
Lynn Arnold and Edward
Van Sickle, passed away
Tuesday, May 4, 2021,
Trinity Hospital in Minot.
Lyanna Rae was born
July 30, 2020, at Trinity
Hospital in Minot to two
very nervous and excited
first time parents.
Unfortunately, Lyanna
was born with a heart de-
fect and had to be flown
to Minneapolis, MN. She
spent the first two months
of her life there and made
it through open heart sur-
gery and many other pro-
cedures and tests. Lyanna
pulled through many dif-
ferent setbacks. One of
her caretakers said, “Do
not underestimate her be-
cause she keeps surpris-
ing you.” One of the first
things people noticed
about Lyanna was her gor-
geous long eyelashes
earning her the nickname
“Lashes”. In late Sep-
tember the family of three
were more than excited to
be returning home. Life
was busy but wonderful
settling into her new
home. In November, we
were devastated when
Lyanna had to return to
Minneapolis for emergen-cy open heart surgery.
She proved her tenacity
once again and returned
home less than two weeks
later. Through everything,
Lyanna remained a bright
vivacious child. Everyone
that met her loved her in-
stantly. Family that only
knew her through pic-
tures and videos loved her
just as much.
She loved to laugh at
her puppy, Gemma, and
play with her ears. Gem-
ma loved her little sister
and was patient even
when Lyanna pulled too
hard. Lyanna loved to
babble and would have
conversations with her
purple monkey or the oth-
er baby in the mirror. She
played with her crinkly
elephant relentlessly and
screamed with delight
when you handed him to
her. Lyanna was always
moving whether she was
dancing or exploring with
her hands. If there was
anything within reach of
her feet you best believe
she was kicking it. Lyanna
was very curious and at-
tentive. Whether it was a
toy or face she was study-
ing, it had her full atten-
tion. Her little laugh cap-
tivated you and left you
wanting more. Even
though her life was short,
she touched many lives
and left a lasting impres-
sion that will last a life-
time.
Psalm 147:3 – He heals
the broken hearted and
binds up their wounds.
