Helen Helgeson

MOHALL – Helen Jean

Helgeson, 86, rural Lans-

ford, died Sunday, May 2,

2021, at a Minot nursing

home.

She was born Jan. 6,

1935, in Riceville, Ky., to

Glen and Mallie (Hub-

bard) Williams. She had

ten brothers and sisters.

She went to school at

Oil Springs School in

Johnson County through

the eighth grade. Helen

worked at the telephone

company in Newport

News, N.C., where she

met Emil “Sonny” Helge-

son while he was sta-

tioned in the Navy at Nor-

folk, VA. They were mar-

ried on Jan. 15, 1955, in

Hertford, N.C.

After Emil’s discharge

from the Navy, they

moved to Livonia, Mich.,

where she worked various

places. In 1959, they

adopted a daughter, Janice

Susan, and a year later, a

son, Randall Keith, to the

family.

They moved to Emil’s

family farm in Lansford in

December of 1975. She

kept herself busy with the

farm animals and her gar-

den.

Helen enjoyed pinochle

or any card game with

neighbors and friends.

She enjoyed ceramics,

making wedding cakes

and listening to old-time

gospel music. She loved

her kids, and especially

her grandbabies, both hu-

man and furry ones. The

love of her life, Sonny,

passed away March 27,

2019.

Helen moved to Trinity

Homes, Minot, in 2016,

where she gained a new

family from caregivers at

the home. She never lost

her Kentucky sass; they

are all going to miss her

sass.

brother-in-law, Marlan

(Beverly) Helgeson, Grand

Forks.

Helen was preceded in

death by: her parents,

Glen and Mallie Williams;

husband, Emil “Sonny”

Helgeson; sisters, Evelyn,

Joetta and Maxine; and

brothers, James, Harold,

Johnny and Glen Willi-

ams.

Funeral: 2:30 p.m., Sa-

turday, May 8, 2021, at

Zion Lutheran Church,

Mohall.

Burial: Lansford

Cemetery, Lansford.

Visitation: 11 a.m. until

the service time, Satur-

day, at the church.
