Verla Reichenberger
Sept. 29, 1941-March 29, 2021
Verla Jane Reichen-
berger, 79, Minot, former-ly of the Velva area, died
Monday, March 29, 2021,
in a Tempe, Arizona, Hos-
pice Care Center.
Verla (Nutz) Reichen-
berger was born Sep-
tember 29, 1941, in Har-
vey, North Dakota, to
Arthur and Erna (Han-
nemann) Nutz. Verla at-
tended school in Harvey
and graduated from Har-
vey High School in 1959.
After high school, Verla
worked for Northwestern
Bell Telephone as a tele-
phone operator in Harvey
and Minot for three years.
On September 30, 1960,
Verla married Willard
Reichenberger. They
moved to the Reichen-
berger family farm, south
of Velva, in 1962 and
farmed until 1988. To
this union was born a son,
Kent, in 1962. Joining
Kent in 1970 was his sis-
ter, Shannon. In 2003,
Verla and Willard retired
and moved into Minot.
Through the years, Verla
helped on the farm, was
busy raising children, and
worked several part time
jobs at different times.
Over the 60 plus years
of marriage, Verla and
Willard enjoyed traveling
and visiting family
throughout the USA.
They owned different
camping trailers since
1965. Their vacation trav-
els took their family to
many national parks and
49 of the 50 states. They
visited every state capital
with the exception of
North Carolina. In 1998,
Verla and Willard pur-
chased a lake home on
Lake Metigoshe, which
they enjoyed for a number
of summers. They espe-
cially loved having their
grandchildren come to the
Lake and enjoy the water
sports. Verla and Willard
became Arizona Snow-
birds beginning in 2004.
In 2010, Verla and Wil-
lard purchased a small
townhouse in a 55+ com-
munity in Mesa, AZ. It
has only 60 units so the
friends and neighbors
there were close and did
many activities together.
Verla was an active
member of Our Redee-
mer’s Lutheran Church in
Minot. Over the years she
taught Sunday School and
helped with the children’s
music, sang in the church
choir and served as coor-
dinator of the Wedding
and Funeral Committees
at the church. Verla also
was a very talented quilter
and was a part of the
church’s quilting group
that made many quilts for
missions. She also
belonged to the Sew and
So Club and Friendly
Neighbors Homemakers
Club of Velva.
