Ruben Buechler

Ruben Buechler, 89,

Sawyer, died Monday,

April 5, 2021 in a Minot

hospital.

Ruben was born May 2,

1931 on the family farm

in Newman Township of

Ward County, North

Dakota to Henry and Ber-

tha (Metz) Buechler. He

was educated in country

school and assisted his

family with their dairy

operation as he was grow-

ing up.

Ruben was united in

marriage to Arlene Kass-

ner on September 17,

1950, in the Mennonite

Brethren Church in

Sawyer. They made their

home on the family farm.

Ruben held seasonal posi-

tions for Porter Brothers

and Quality Lignite until

1958. Ruben purchased a

gas station in Mandan,

ND, working for a year

until joining Ekland

Brothers as truckdriver

hauling crude oil in Wat-

ford City.

In 1961, they returned

to the Buechler family

homestead located south

of Sawyer, where he con-

tinued as a

third-generation dairy

farmer. He sold Grade A

milk to Bridgeman for the

next forty years ending in

2001. Ruben raised com-

mercial beef for the next

20 years in addition to

operating the Doboy

Dealership in Minot for

many years. He felt

blessed to work alongside

his son Mark until he re-

tired in 2020 to care for

his wife.

Ruben enjoyed spend-

ing time in the garden and

was known to make a stop

at McDonald’s for food

and conversation while in

Minot. He will be missed

deeply by his family and

many friends who were

blessed to share in his

life.

Ruben is survived by:

his loving wife of 70

years, Arlene, Sawyer;

children Peggy Hilson,

Minot, Connie (Wade)

Guttormson and Mark

(Phyllis) Buechler, both of

Sawyer; grandchildren

Jonathon (Amber) Larson,

Mandan, ND, Stacy Lar-

son, Mandan, ND, Jamie

(Amy) Guttormson, Velva,

Brandi (Eric) White,

Hazen, ND, Levi (Whitt-

ney) Buechler, Minot,

Amber (Tyler) Emerson,

Minot, Sara (Cameron)

Schilken, Minot, Erin Gut-

tormson, Tucson, AZ,

Brittney Buechler, Man-

dan, ND and Michael

Buechler, Fargo, ND; sis-

ter Marianne (Richard)

Crow, Savage, MN; along

with numerous nieces and

nephews.

Ruben was preceded in

death by: his parents, son,

Dean, brother, Leo and

sister, Agnes Cook.

Funeral Service: 11:00

a.m. Saturday, April 10,

2021 at St. Peter’s Luth-

eran Church, Sawyer, ND.

Interment: Rosehill

Memorial Park, Minot.

Visitation: Friday, April

9, 2021 from 3:00 p.m.

until 6:00 p.m. at the Tho-

mas Family Funeral

Home, Minot.
