Paul Sumedinger

Paul Sumedinger, 83,
died on Tuesday, March
16, 2021 at his home in
Towner, North Dakota.
Paul was born on April
20, 1937 in New Orleans,
Louisiana, the son of
Mathaus, Jr. and Noellie
Julia Stoulig Sumedinger.
His family moved to Mis-
sissippi shortly after his
birth.
Paul graduated from
high school from Our
Lady of Victories –
Resurrection Catholic
School in Pascagoula,
Mississippi and studied
civil engineering in col-
lege. He spent his youth
on his grandfather’s farm
in the Pascagoula area.
Mr. Sumedinger entered
the United States Air
Force in March 1959 and
served 6 tours of duty
with over 23 years of ser-
vice with domestic and
foreign service. Paul was
discharged at the highest
rank of a NCO as a Chief
Master Sergeant. During
his military career he was
awarded the National De-
fense Service Medal, Air
Force Good Conduct
Medal with a silver and 2
bronze oak leaf clusters,
Air Force Commendation
Medal with 2 bronze oak
leaf clusters, Meritorious
Service Medal with 3
bronze oak leaf clusters,
Small Arms Expert Rifle,
NCO Professional Military
Education Graduate rib-
bon with oak leaf cluster,
Air Force Longevity Ser-
vice Ribbon with 1 silver
oak leaf cluster, Air Force
Overseas Long Tour Rib-
bon, Air Force Outstand-
ing Unit Award with 2
bronze oak leaf clusters
and Army Good Conduct
Medal. He also assisted in
the operation of Sumed-
inger Plumbing and Heat-
ing in Pascagoula.
Since April 1996, fol-
lowing his last military as-
signment at the Minot Air
Force Base – Minot, North
Dakota, he had made his
home in Towner. Paul as-
sisted several in the area
by setting up computer
programs for homes or
businesses. Paul en-
joyed traveling around the
world on ocean liners and
enjoyed many many trips
on Amtrak around the
United States. He also en-
joyed opera and ballet
around the world.
A memorial service will
be held at St. Cecilia
Catholic Church in Town-
er on April 23, 2021 at
11:00 A.M.
He was buried in the
North Dakota Veterans
Cemetery in Mandan on
April 8, 2021 with mili-
tary honors being provid-
ed by Veterans of Foreign
Wars Post # 707 and the
North Dakota Military
Honor Detail.

Kimberly Sardo – Glen-
dale, California, Charly

friends in North Dakota.
