Paul Horn

Paul H. Horn, 80, Minot,
passed away peacefully
Thursday, April 8, 2021,
at Trinity Hospital in
Minot, surrounded by his
loving family.
Paul was born in St.
Paul, MN on February 9,
1941 to Harold and Lor-
raine Horn. He graduated
from Henry Sibley High
School in West St. Paul in
1959. Paul married Donna
Nygard on June 8, 1963 at
the Minot Air Base
chapel. They became the
proud parents of five chil-
dren.
After high school, Paul
enlisted in the United
States Air Force. He com-
pleted airborne radio
school in Biloxi, MS, and
became a radio operator.
He was stationed at Kade-
na Air Base in Okinawa,
Japan, and then
transferred to Minot Air
Base, where he attained
the rank of Airman First
Class. While serving in
Minot he received the Air
Force Special Commenda-tion Medal and was
named the Base’s Airman
of the Quarter.
In 1964, he started
Paul’s Woodworks in
Minot. He taught himself
to repair and refinish fur-
niture and became a mas-
ter of his trade. He ex-
panded the business to
sell paint and other fin-
ishing products and sun-
dries for many years to lo-
cal painters, cabinet shops
and other customers.
After 39 years he sold the
business and retired. He
then started carving
ducks, geese, and fish,
and making other wood
products as part of a hob-
by business called Prairie
Creations. He and Donna
spent many years exhibit-ing his work at Pride of
Dakota and other craft
fairs.
Paul was an active
member at St. John the
Apostle Catholic Church.
He was a proud supporter
of Bishop Ryan High
School. He served as
President of the Minot
Lions Club and was a
Grand Knight as a
member of the Knights of
Columbus. He also served
as an Alderman on the
Minot City Council and
was a member of the
Minot Planning Commis-
sion. He enjoyed fishing,
hunting, camping, com-
pleting fix-it projects for
his family, and was an
avid sports fan. The time
spent with his family was
his favorite.
Paul is survived by: his
wife of 57 years, Donna;
his five children, Denise
(Keith) Johnson of Minot,
ND; Jim (Ann) Horn of
Minneapolis, MN; Debbie
(Steve) Jung of Blooming-
ton, MN; DeAnn (Perry)
Mattson of Grand Forks,
ND and Darla (Patrick)
Jensen of Bismarck, ND;
17 grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; and
his siblings, Peter, Linda,
Laura, Elaine, Marie, Jon,
Joe, Anita and Beth; and
numerous nieces and
nephews.
Paul was preceded in
death by: his parents,
Harold and Lorraine
Horn, and grandson, Jor-
dan.
A Vigil Prayer Service
for family and friends will
be held at 5:00 pm on
Monday, April 12, 2021 at
Thompson-Larson Fun-
eral Home in Minot, im-
mediately followed by a
visitation until 7:00 pm.
A Mass of Christian
Burial will be at 10:00 am
on Tuesday, April 13,
2021 at St. John the Apos-
tle Catholic Church in
Minot.
Interment will be at
Rosehill Memorial
Cemetery following the
funeral.
A luncheon reception
will be held at the church
at approximately 12:00
pm following the inter-
ment.
In lieu of flowers, the
family prefers memorials
to the St. John the Apostle
Catholic Church building
fund or a charity of your
choice.
