Kathryn Wickman
Jan. 8, 1933-April 24, 2021
Kathryn “Kathy” Elaine
Wickman, 88, passed
away in her home on Sa-
turday, April 24 after a
courageous four-year bat-
tle with cancer surround-
ed in love by her three
daughters who will con-
tinue to honor her legacy
by living their lives to the
fullest.
Kathy was born at home
in Esmond, North Dakota,
to Jacob and Barbara (Bur-
gard) Wolf, on January 8,
1933.
She attended school in
Esmond until her sopho-
more year when she be-
gan attending St. Mary’s
Academy in Devils Lake,
North Dakota. She re-
turned to Esmond to com-
plete her senior year, gra-
duating in 1951. She at-
tended the College of St.
Theresa in Winona, Min-
nesota and the Minneapo-lis Business College in
Minneapolis, Minnesota.
She lived and worked in
Minneapolis for several
years before returning to
North Dakota in 1957.
She married Frank
Wickman on September
22, 1958. Frank died on
April 4, 1996.
Kathy worked at
Doeksen-Gross Insurance
Agency, St. Joseph’s Hos-
pital, and Schriock Con-
struction where Frank
was a partner.
She was a member of
Bread of Life Lutheran
Church, a charter member
of the Minot Elkettes, a
member of the Eagles
Auxiliary and Women of
the Moose. She was active
in bridge circles and en-
joyed other card games
with friends. The friend-
ships she made through
these activities date back
several decades.
Kathy was a world trav-
eler, visiting all seven
continents. Traveling with
family (most often with
her sister Janie) and
friends, especially on
cruises, created incredible
memories and stories.
Kathy was an excellent
cook and baker. For over
60 years, she made a large
selection of candy that
she would gift to family
and friends each Christ-
mas. For those that re-
ceived these delectable
treats in the mail, it was a
highlight to receive this
package each year. Kathy
hosted many holiday
dinners at her home, often
trying a new dessert from
a new recipe she had
found. A special project
she created with her
daughters last year was a
cookbook of over 700 re-
cipes with the purpose of
serving as a legacy to her
future generations.
Kathy, herself, would
tell others, especially after
receiving her initial and
advanced cancer diag-
noses, that she was truly
blessed to have lived such
a long, full, and wonder-
ful life. Her pleasant and
upbeat personality was
truly a gift to all who
knew and loved her. She
viewed her last weeks of
life as a celebration, al-
ways having at least one
of her daughters with her
24 hours a day and being
able to talk and visit with
so many important people
in her life. With all she
experienced in her 88
years of living, she left a
note stating that if anyone
ever asked her what she
considered her life’s
greatest achievement, the
answer would be easy, her
three daughters!
She was preceded in
death by: her husband,
parents, two sisters, Irene
Schaan and Janie Frazier,
and one brother, James
Wolf.
Kathryn is survived by:
her three daughters,
Michelle ‘Mikki’ (Mark)
Kremer, Minot, Tracey
(Kevin) Lawson, Minot,

fany) Kremer, Michael
