Melba Mogren
July 26, 1932-Feb. 8, 2021
Melba Ruth Mogren, 88,
of rural Kenmare, passed
away on February 8, 2021
at Kenmare, ND.
Melba Ruth Schryver
was born July 26, 1932 in
the family home near
Chandler, Oklahoma. She
was the second of two
daughters born to Harry
and Blanche (Mott)
Schryver. Ruth was bap-
tized at the First Baptist
Church of Chandler on
September 9, 1943. She
attended adult confirma-
tion studies at the Elm-
dale Lutheran Church and
affirmed her Christian
faith there on December
14, 1952.
Ruth attended school at
the Stony Point rural
school and also the
Chandler Public School.
In October of 1943 the
family moved to a farm
near “Big Spring” (west of
Niobe). She attended rural
school there.
In November of 1945,
her parents bought a
house in Kenmare. Ruth
attended public school
and graduated in May
1950. Ival and Ruth were
married at the First Bap-
tist Church in Kenmare
on November 17, 1950.
They made their home
west of Kenmare where
Ival was engaged in farm-
ing. In 1959, they pur-
chased Mag’s Service Sta-
tion from Magnus Martin-sen and operated it as
Ival’s Standard Service. In
1961, they built a new gas
station at that location
and operated it until 1963.
The family moved to
Powers Lake in 1964 and
Ival worked as a mechanic
for Enget Implement in
Powers Lake, ND from
1964-65, while continuing
to farm. While in Powers
Lake, Ruth was a Tup-
perware dealer. In 1965
the family returned to
their home in Kenmare
and in 1974 built a new
home southwest of Niobe.
Ruth worked at the
Gambles Store in Ken-
mare from 1964 to 1973.
She then worked at the
Baptist home in Kenmare
and was the area project
director for the Kenmare
Wheels and Meals Pro-
gram 1981 to 1991.
Ruth enjoyed time with
family and friends. She
enjoyed going with her
daughter and
daughters-in-law for quilt-
ing weekends and they
made several memorable
“girls only” trips. She
went on several tours
with friends and one of
her most memorable trips
was the Alaskan tour and
cruise with numerous
family members.
She is a past member of
Nazareth Lutheran
Church. She was an active
member of Elmdale Luth-
eran Church at the time of
her death. She had been a
member of many organi-
zations over the years in-
cluding American Legion
Auxiliary, Baptist Home
Auxiliary, Senior Citizens,
Burke County Historical
Society and served as as-
sessor for Kandiyohi
Township and treasurer
for the Elmdale Lutheran
Cemetery Association.
Ruth loved entertaining
and was happiest when
she was serving family,
friends, and neighbors in
her home. The coffee pot
was always on and many
family holidays and tradi-
tions were enjoyed in the
Mogren home. She truly
felt her mission was to
serve people. She enjoyed
her independence and felt
blessed.
Ruth loved the Lord
and enjoyed opportunities
to share her faith journey
with others. She en-
deavored to let the light of
Christ shine through her
and supported several
ministries.
