Judy Johnson, 81,
Minot, died Tuesday,
February 9, 2021 in Velva
nursing home where she
had been a resident since
October of 2020.
Judy Ann Long was
born on July 24, 1939, a
daughter of Bill and
Frances (Wagar) Long in
Minot, ND. She was
raised in the Glenburn
and Upham area. Judy
and her family spent
winters in Key West, FL
from 1946-1954 as Judy's
father and grandfather ran
a commercial fishing busi-
ness. The summer months
the family lived on their
family farm where they
raised livestock and tur-
keys in Upham. In
Marathon, FL in 1950, the
Long Family (Judy, her
parents and siblings) were
baptized as a family. Judy
was confirmed, as an
adult, in Glenburn, ND at
Trinity Lutheran Church.
She graduated from Up-
ham High School in 1957.
Judy furthered her educa-
tion by attending Minot
State Business College for
a brief time.
On November 12, 1958,
Judy was united in mar-
riage to Gordon Johnson
of Glenburn, ND. They
lived on the Johnson fami-
ly farm until they moved
to Minot. From this union
two sons Wayne and Dean
were born.
While in Minot she
worked many secretarial
jobs and also became a
CNA. She worked many
years in the chemical
dependency unit at St.
Joe's Hospital. At the age
of 50, Judy attended
Fergus Falls Community
College and became an
RN in 1993. As an RN, she
returned to St. Joe's and
worked within the Psychi-atric unit. She then
worked at Headstart, then
North Central Human Ser-
vices and Easter Seals.
She left her job at Easter
Seals at the age of 80 be-
cause of health issues.
She also spent summers
working as the camp
nurse at International
Music Camp.
Her faith was very im-
portant to her. She was a
member of Bethany Luth-
eran Church, where she
was active with the Ladies
Guild, Funeral Luncheon
committee and also
served as the parish nurse
and worked in the
Bethany booth at the
Norsk Hostfest.
She enjoyed music,
theater, and traveling,
reading and trying new
cooking recipes. She cher-
ished her family and
friends. She'll be remem-
bered for her bright smile,
quick wit and famous ba-
nana bread.
Judy is survived by:
Sons: Wayne (DeAnna)
Johnson, Bottineau and
Dean (Jean) Johnson,
Glenburn: grandchildren:
Tyler, Kirby (Marcella),
Wyatt (Kelcee), Grace
(Braydon) and Olivia;
great-grandchildren: Rae-
lyn and Kinley; siblings:
Bill (Janey) Long, French
Town, MT, Max (Joyce)
Long, Parker, CO, and
Mary Sather, Minot;
several nieces, nephews
and cousins also survive.
Judy was preceded in
death by: her parents, Bill
and Frances, grandson,
Blake Johnson and
nephew, Matthew Brandt.
Visitation: Sunday,
February 14, 2021 from 3
until 5 pm at
Thompson-Larson Fun-
eral Home, Minot. All lo-
cal state and CDC regula-
tions will apply.
Funeral Service: Mon-
day, February 15, 2021 at
10:30 am at Bethany Luth-
eran Church, Minot

Burial: Sunset Memori-al Gardens, Minot
In lieu of flowers
memorials are preferred
to the Bethany Lutheran
Church music program or
donor's choice.
