Betty McKenzie

Betty McKenzie passed

away peacefully on

Thursday, January 28,

2021 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Betty was born on July 29,

1925 in New Rockford,

ND to Arthur and Lillian

(Carson) Mellberg. Her

family moved to Minot,

ND in 1932. Betty gra-

duated from Minot High

School in 1943 and from

Minot Business College in

1944. Betty was employed

in various roles including

temporary war appointee

for the U.S. Postal Ser-

vice, a Farm Journal em-

ployee in Texas and assis-

tant to Ward County ND

Register of Deeds. Betty

and Donald (D.C.) McKen-

zie were married in St.

Vincent Methodist

Church in Minot on July

29, 1948. D.C.’s employ-

ment relocated them to

several cities including

Bismarck, ND, St. Paul,

MN, Riverdale, ND, Pi-

erre, SD, Sioux City, IA,

Omaha, NE, Langdon, ND

and Park River, ND. After

retirement in 1975, they

moved to their home in

Minot and operated a

private land surveying

business. D.C. passed

away November 10, 1989.

Betty is survived by

daughters: Kitty (Bernie)

Bachman, Langdon, ND;

Connie (Dennis) Jasken,

Mesa, AZ; Carrie (Mark)

Syrstad, Simi Valley, CA,

Kay (Tim Filipi)

McKenzie-Filipi, Scotts-

dale, AZ and stepdaughter

Patricia Garver and family

of Michigan; nine

grandchildren and

twenty-one great-

grandchildren. She was

preceded in death by her

husband, her parents, sis-

ters Marjorie Mellberg,

Beverly McKee and broth-

er William Mellberg. A

graveside service and

burial will be held at

Rosehill Cemetery in

Minot this summer.
