Williston extends mask order for city

The City of Williston has extended a mask order requiring people in the city limits to wear face masks indoors around non-household members and outside if they can’t stay six feet apart.

“While our COVID-19 numbers for Williams County remain under 100, until more vaccines are distributed, it is important that we continue to keep what has worked in place,” said Mayor Howard Klug in a press release.

The order, which was introducted last Nov. 9, will remain in effect until the current state of emergency for the state ends. Gov. Doug Burgum allowed a statewide mask order to expire on Monday, but left a statewide declaration of emergency in effect. Cities and businesses, schools, and other institutions can continue to require masks within their jurisdictions.

There is no penalty in Williston for people who do not comply with a mask order.
