Sandra E. McQueen
July 3, 1948-Dec. 4, 2020
Sandra E. McQueen, 72,
of New Town, ND, was
called home on December
4, 2020, at her winter
residence in Donna, TX.
Sandra “Sandy” De-
Maine was born July 3,
1948, in St. Vincent, MN,
to Ralph and Theresa
(Bertrand) DeMaine. She
was raised on the family
farm near Pembina, ND.
After graduating from
Pembina High School,
Sandy attended Mayville
State University, where
she graduated with a
bachelor’s degree in Edu-
cation. She continued her
education and earned her
certification for elementa-ry administration.
On June 1, 1968, Sandy
married James McQueen
in Pembina, ND. They
were happily married for
48 years at the time of
Jim’s death in March of
2017. She was a dedicated
teacher and administrator
for many years at various
schools throughout North
Dakota, including Fort
Totten, Columbus, Drake,
Willow City, Deering, and
Sawyer. Education was
Sandy’s passion and she
loved knowing she could
make a difference in her
students’ lives. Sandy and
Jim enjoyed their retire-
ment together, becoming
“winter Texans” and split-
ting their time between
Donna, Texas, and Van
Hook at Lake Sakakawea.
Sandy spent most of her
time outdoors doing the
things she loved, includ-
ing long walks, gardening,
traveling to new places,
and watching her grand-
kids’ many activities. She
especially loved spending
time at her lake home at
Van Hook, entertaining at
her annual 4th of July
gathering, and an evening
around the campfire. She
was a faithful friend, sup-
portive sister, and amaz-
ing mom. Her most cher-
ished role in life was be-
ing a grandma, carefully
planning special outings
for her grandkids anytime
she could. She beamed
with pride for each of
them. Sandy was a devout
Christian, and her faith
was a vital part of her life.
She lived selflessly, gen-
erously and made the
most of each day. We will
miss her beautiful smile
and infectious laugh more
than words can describe.
