Rose Burns

June 18, 1932-Jan. 22, 2021

Rose Burns, 88, long-

time Surrey resident and

formerly of Norma died

on Friday, January 22,

2021 in a Velva care

center.

Rose Adell was born on

June 18, 1932 in Kenmare,

ND to Malte and Cora

(Lund) Madsen. She was

raised on a farm near Nor-

ma and graduated from

Norma High School in

1950. She continued her

education at Minot State

Teacher’s College and

earned a Standard Teach-

ing Certificate. She was

employed as a first grade

teacher in the Norma area.

Later, she returned to col-

lege to further her educa-

tion.

Rose married Ronald

Burns on June 5, 1955 at

Trinity Lutheran Church

near Kenmare. They made

their home in Surrey and

were the proud parents of

two children, Susan and

Bob, and where Rose was

the volunteer secretary at

Hope Lutheran Church for

thirty years. Ron died on

February 5, 2012. She had

continued to reside in

Surrey until she moved to

the Souris Valley Care

Center last year.

Rose was a longtime

and active member of

Hope Lutheran Church

and was an office holder

in the church women’s or-

ganization. She was a

member of the Surrey

Senior Citizens and

served as a 4H leader for

nine years and was a

member of the Surrey

PTA in her younger years.

She especially enjoyed

reading, sewing, garden-

ing, stamp and coin col-

lecting and coloring.

Rose’s loving family in-

cludes: her children, Su-

san Brandt of Surrey and

Robert (Robin) Burns of

Granville; four grandchil-

dren: Tanya Brandt, Shan-

non (Garrett) Dockter,

Ashlee Burns and Jake

(Breann) Burns; sister:

Gladys (Phil) Estes of Wel-

lington CO and several

nieces, nephews and

cousins.

Rose was preceded in

death by: her parents,

husband and an infant

brother.

the Life of Rose Burns:

Wednesday, January 27,

2021 at 11:00 a.m. in

Hope Lutheran Church,

Surrey. A livestream of

the service will be avail-

Interment will be in the

Church of the Brethren

Cemetery, Surrey.

Public Visitation: Tues-

day from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00

p.m. in Thomas Family

Funeral Home, Minot.
