Marshal Oas

Marshal Oas, 69, Minot,

formerly of Columbus,

ND, died Saturday, Janu-

ary 9, 2021 in his home.

Marshal Allen Oas was

born on June 5, 1951, a

son of Orien and Nelsie

(Gunderson) Oas in

Powers Lake, ND. He was

raised and educated

Powers Lake, until the

family moved to the Oas

family farm south of

Columbus, ND, where he

graduated from Columbus

High School in 1970. He

furthered his education

by attending the North

Dakota State College of

Science at Wahpeton,

earning a Welding degree.

Following his gradua-

tion, he began his working

career as a welder in

Wahpeton for a time, be-

fore returning to Lignite,

ND, where he worked for

Stevens Welding. Marshal

transferred to the Lignite

Oil Refinery, where he

worked for over 38 years.

In addition, he was own-

er/operator of Marshal’s

Welding Service, where

he did lots of welding for

relatives and friends.

Marshal enjoyed travel-

ing, and was able to enjoy

two trips to Costa Rica

with friends. He and Mel-

da, his lifelong compan-

ion, moved to Minot

where together they en-

joyed spending time with

Melda’s children and

grandchildren. The entire

family traveled to the Phi-

lippines to visit family

and friends. Marshal also

treasured his time at the

family farm near

Columbus, ND, attending

auction sales and visiting

with his friends. He was a

wonderful, loving brother,

uncle, partner, and friend

and will be deeply

missed.

Marshal is survived by:

companion Melda

Nichols, Minot; siblings:

Gaylen (Debbie) Oas,

Williston, ND, Darrell

(Tami) Oas, Dekalb, IL,

and Merlin (Cathy) Oas,

Euless, TX; family he

loved like his own, Melda

daughter Mae (Jason) Gell-

er, grandchildren Grant,

Brielle, Gage and Brienne,

all of Minot; along with

several nieces and

nephews that he also

adored as his own chil-

dren.

He was preceded in

death by his parents, and

a sister Sheryl Oas.

2021, at 11 am at

Thompson-Larson Fun-

eral Home Chapel, Minot.

Lutheran Cemetery, south

of Columbus, ND
