Joan Jensen

July 31, 1934-Dec. 9, 2020

Joan Jensen, 86, Minot

and formerly of Grand

Forks, died on Wednes-

day, December 9, 2020 in

a Garrison nursing care

center. Unfortunately, she

was another victim of Co-

vid-19.

Margaret Joan was born

on July 31, 1934 in

Omaha, Nebraska to John

and Margaret (Svenson)

Johnson. She was raised

and educated in Omaha,

graduated from Omaha

North High School in

1952 and completed her

education at a business

college in Omaha. As a

young adult she was em-

ployed by the Union Pa-

cific Railroad as an ac-

counting clerk for several

years.

Joan married Carl L.

Jensen on December 31,

1955 in Omaha. They

moved to Wyoming in

1962 and resided in

Casper, Laramie and

Sheridan where she was

employed as a librarian.

During this time Joan and

Carl were blessed with 3

children, Jason, Jacque-

line and John. The family

moved to Grand Forks in

1972, where Joan worked

for the North Dakota

School for the Blind even-

tually serving as their Ex-

ecutive Secretary. Joan

moved to Minot in 1980

and began employment

with Ward County Social

Services until she retired

in 1997. She worked for

Market Place Pharmacy

until she and Carl decided

to travel. Carl died on

February 7, 2017. Joan

had continued to reside in

Minot, most recently at

the Wellington Assisted

Living Center, Pro Health

Homes and Benedictine

Living Center in Garrison

since May of 2017 due to

advancing stages of

dementia.

Joan was a member of

Vincent United Methodist

Church, Minot and the

Professional Secretary’s

Association for 10-15

years. She especially en-

joyed playing bridge,

cross stitching, reading,

walking and traveling.

Her favorite trips were to

Alaska and Australia, leaf

peeping tours and cruises.

She was also known for

her cross-stitch projects

which won her many

first-place ribbons at the

ND State Fair. She also

cross-stitched Christmas

cards for many years for

family and friends.

Joan’s loving family in-

cludes: her children: Ja-

son (Kathy) Jensen of

Bellvue, CO, Jacqueline

Jensen of Minot and John

(Teresa) Jensen of Aber-

den, WA; 3 grandchil-

dren: Tyler (Stephanie),

Jessica, and Nicole.

Joan was preceded in

death by: her parents,

husband of 61 years, and

the Svenson clan.

Public Celebration of

the Life of Joan Jensen:

Monday, December 28, at

2:00 p.m. in Vincent Unit-

ed Methodist Church,

Minot. Face coverings and

social distancing are re-

quired. A livestream of

the service will be avail-

able by using the link con-

tained in the website obi-

tuary.

Interment: Rosehill

Memorial Park, Minot.

Public Visitation: Sun-

day from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00

p.m. in Thomas Family

Funeral Home – Minot.

Face coverings and so-
