Jimmie Swartwout

Jimmie D. Swartwout,

80, Surrey, ND, died Fri-

day, December 25, 2020,

in a Minot hospital.

Jimmie Detlaf Swart-

wout was born on No-

vember 7, 1940, a son of

Carl and Agnes (Hansen)

Swartwout. He was raised

and educated in Surrey,

where he graduated from

Surrey High School in

1959.

In 1959, Jimmie enlist-

ed into the United States

Army. He proudly served

his country doing two

tours during the Vietnam

Conflict, where he was a

proud member of the

101st Airborne Division.

He was honorably

discharged in 1969.

Following his dis-

charge, Jimmie was united

in marriage to Linda Ogel.

To this union son Jimmie

D. was born. The couple

later divorced. Jimmie

was then united in mar-

riage to Thelma Lilly. To

this union were three

children, a stillborn son

Jimmie, son Shawn and a

daughter Serena. While

raising his children, one

of Jimmie’s passions was

hunting fox and coyotes

with his greyhounds. The

couple later divorced.

Jimmie was united in

marriage to Karen Owens-

Kurry in 1986, and be-

came a blended family

with Karen’s three boys.

Karen died May 18, 2020.

Jimmie was the

owner/operator of Swart-

wout Auto Salvage since

1973. He was well known

in the area and made

many friends and ac-

quaintances over the

years.

Jimmie was a member

of St. John the Apostle

Catholic Church, Minot.

Together Karen and Jim-

mie enjoyed traveling, rid-

ing the train, playing

Bingo and watching ball

games.

Jimmie is survived by:

Children: Jimmy Dee

(Anna) Swartwout, CA,

and their children: Amy,

Jenny, Will and Wes;

Shawn (Nicole) Swart-

wout, Minot, and their

children Jagger, Reino,

Brogan, and Baylee

Fitzgerald; and a daughter

Serena (Chris) Keller, Ger-

many; six great-grand-

children: Step-children:

Lonny Kurry, Minot, Lee

(Jane) Kurry, Phoenix, and

Toby Kurry, Minot; Si-

blings: Melodee Bryantt,

Bruce (Ellen) Swartwout;

Several nieces, nephews

and cousins also survive.

Jimmie was preceded

in death by his parents, a

stillborn son, wife Karen

and a brother Carl.

Visitation: Wednesday,

December 30, 2020, from

3 until 5 at Thompson-

Larson Funeral Home,

Minot. A private family

vigil service will take

place at 5 pm in the

Thompson-Larson Fun-

eral Home Chapel, Minot.

All local and state Co-

vid-19 regulations will be

followed.

al: Thursday, December

31, 2020, at 10:30 am at

St. John the Apostle

Catholic Church, Minot.
