Stella Dowd

Stella Dowd, 100,

Minot, ND, and formerly

of Salem, OR, died Sun-

day, November 15, 2020,

in a Minot nursing care fa-

cility.

Stella was born on

January 19, 1920, on the

family farm near

Benedict, ND, a daughter

of Emanuel and Tina

(Bechtold) Schoenwald.

She was raised there and

graduated from Velva

High School.

Stella worked in the

banking industry in Minot

and in Stockton, CA. She

married Hank Dowd in

1962 in Stockton. Follow-ing Hank’s death and her

retirement she moved to

Salem, OR. Stella did

many hours of volunteer

work at her church and in

the community. In 2016,

she returned to Minot to

be near family.

Stella is survived by:

her sister, Luella Helle of

Minot and her beloved

nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in

death by: her husband,

Hank; her parents; a sis-

ter, Dorothy Schmit; and

brothers, Leonard,

Lawrence and Wally

Schoenwald.

A private family service

will take place.
