Lillian Mable Wilson

Nov. 28, 1909-Nov. 4, 2020

Lillian Mable Wilson,

110, longtime Minot

resident, died on Wednes-

day, November 4, 2020 in

a Minot Nursing Care

Center.

Lillian was born on No-

vember 28, 1909 the old-

est of three children to

Adam and Anna (Keys)

Wilson on the family farm

in Tatum Township of

Ward County, North

Dakota. She was raised on

the family farm and edu-

cated at country schools

in that area. At the age of

9, her father passed away

from the Spanish flu. Her

mother, Anna, was a re-

markable woman and be-

came the sole support of

the family. They moved to

Aneta, ND to be nearer re-

latives.

In 1925, the family

moved back to Minot and

Lillian became employed

at the Woolworth’s store

in downtown Minot. She

graduated from Minot

High School as salutatori-an in 1928. She attended

Minot State Teacher’s Col-

lege and received a stan-

dard teaching certificate.

She began a lengthy

teaching career at Tatum

Township, which she had

attended as a child. She

continued her love for

teaching at Blaisdell,

Towner, Michigan, and

Minot High School. After

completing a master’s de-

gree at the University of

Northern Colorado she

taught at Minot State Col-

lege and Valley City State

College. Lillian was devot-

ed to her students, many

of which sent her letters

of thanks and apprecia-

tion in her later years.

Lillian was active with

Vincent United Methodist

Church, where she helped

out by her own account

with everything except

singing in the choir and

mowing the lawn. The

church library was dedi-

cated and named for Lilli-

an after years of service.

Her interests included

needlepoint, North Dakota

history, and genealogy.

Lillian was a member of

the greatest generation.

No generation has seen

such change within a life-

time. She never married,

drove a car or owned a

house. She never had a

family of her own but was

always a member of ours.

She will be sorely missed

by her family and many

others who are thankful

for her dedication to

teaching and to serving

her community for more

than a century.

Her loving family in-

cludes: nephew, James

(Ann) Wilson, Holladay,

Utah; niece, Ruth (Robert)

Puttre, Bismarck, ND;

greatnephews, Adam Wil-

son and Robert Puttre;

greatnieces, Julie Puttre

and Kate Wilson;

great-great nephew Sean

Stanley.

Lillian was preceded in

death by: her parents,

Adam and Anna Wilson;

siblings, Howard and

Norris Wilson; nephew,

John Wilson; greatnephew

Peter Wilson.

Due to COVID, a Ser-

vice and Celebration of

her life will take place in

the spring/summer of

2021.
