Friday, November 13,

2020 in Minot.

Dorothy Jean was born

July 5, 1935, the daughter

of Violet Gillespie, in

Fargo, ND. Dorothy was

raised and educated in

Park River and graduated

from Park River High

School in 1954. She

worked as a waitress at

various places. Dorothy

married John A. Gefroh at

Zion Lutheran Church on

April 18, 1959. They

made their home in Minot

and raised their four chil-

dren, Susan, John III, Tra-

cy and Matt. She worked

part time at the American

Legion Club and the Labor

Temple in Minot, ND.

John passed away De-

cember 2, 2010 and she

continued to live in

Minot.

Dorothy enjoyed read-

ing, gardening, canning,

volunteering at Trinity

Homes, and making

friends wherever she

went.

Dorothy believed in the

inherent worth and digni-

ty of everyone, making all

she met feel they were

valued for who they were.

Her greatest gift she had

to offer others was uncon-

ditional acceptance and

love. Dorothy’s life resem-

bled the following quote,

“I like weird people – the

black sheep, the odd

ducks, the rejects, the ec-

centrics, the loners, the

lost, and the forgotten.

More often than not, these

people have the most

beautiful souls.”

Her loving family in-

cludes:

children, Susan (Mike)

Starr, Oak Grove, MN;

Tracy (Bill) Boyd, Eau

Claire, WI and Matt (Mar-

la) Gefroh, Minot; four

grandchildren, Marcus

(Megan) Starr and Miles

Starr, Sierra (Derk)

Hauser and Hannah (Kol-

by) Iverson;

great-grandchildren,

Macy, Hudson and Had-

ley Hauser and Lana, Dax-

ton and Kade Iverson.

Dorothy was preceded

in death by: her husband,

John; parents Violet and

Henry Grendahl; and son,

John Gefroh III.

There will be no ser-

vices at this time.

are preferred to Trinity

Hospice or that you keep

Dorothy’s memory alive

by living a life guided by

kindness and empathy.
