Alice E. Kjos

Sept. 10, 1923-Oct. 22, 2020

Alice E. Kjos, 97,

Bismarck, formerly of

Kenmare, ND, died Thurs-

day, October 22, 2020 in a

Bismarck assisted living

center.

Alice Elizabeth Peter-

son was born September

10th, 1923 in Kenmare,

ND to Peter and Clara

(Kronholm-Anderson)

Peterson. She attended

school there, graduating

in the KHS Class of 1941.

During her school years

she worked part time in

local grocery store and do-

ing housecleaning and

laundry for local

residents. Following gra-

duation Alice moved to

Killdeer to live with her

brother Chris to help with

his medical needs, until

his return to Kenmare.

Alice continued to reside

in Killdeer working at the

creamery, grocery store

and Cenex. It was in

Killdeer that she met her

future husband, Art Kjos.

They were married on

June 28th, 1946. In 1948

Alice and Art returned to

Kenmare to establish a

family business, Kjos

Shoe Service, and raise

their family.

Alice was active in

community projects and

events throughout her

lifetime. She served on

many election boards and

reunion committees. She

was an active member of

the Kenmare Senior Ci-

tizens, a past member of

the Kenmare Country

Club and became a life-

time member of the VFW

Auxiliary, where she held

several offices. She is

currently a member of the

Nazareth Lutheran

Church.

Alice lived at her home

in Kenmare after Art’s

passing in 1995. In 2015

Alice left her home to be-

come a resident at the

Wellington Assisted Liv-

ing in Minot. She enjoyed

her time in the new set-

ting where she formed

new friendships with the

residents and staff. She

appreciated the planned

activities there, especially

the musical entertainment

and BINGO. In July 2020

Alice relocated to the Bap-

tist Health Care Center in

Bismarck.

Alice’s greatest pride

and joy was her family.

She was thankful to be

close to her grandchildren

and be a large part of their

lives as they were growing

up. She loved to bake

them their favorite treat,

apple crisp!

Alice was a person with

a gentle heart and was

very thankful to all the

people that shared in her

life. God bless our

memories of Alice.
