Phyllis Anne Vesey was

born December 12, 1928

to Maynard McGrady and

Lillian (Belter) in Stanley,

ND. She grew up on her

grandparents’, George &

Eolith McGrady home-

stead farm near White

Earth, ND along with her

sister, Maxine, and broth-

er, Byron. She helped

milk cows, drive tractor,

and shock the grain. In

her spare time, she liked

swimming in the White

Earth Creek & riding her

horse.

She attended a country

school by White Earth,

walking the 3-mile dis-

tance when it was nice

out and riding with her

dad pulling the sleigh and

covered wagon on colder

days. Her high school

days were at White Earth

where her favorite activity

was playing the slide

trombone in the band.

Phyllis attended college at

Minot State where she

earned a teaching degree.

Phyllis was very proud of

starting the first band in

Palermo school. She

taught school until she

married Edwin “Bob”

Walhaug. They raised

their family on their farm

near Palermo, ND and

owned and operated the

grocery store in Palermo.

In 1976 Phyllis moved

to Fort Collins, Colorado

and married Raynold

(Ken) Vesey. She worked

for over 15 years in the

engineering office at

Woodward Governor. In

early 90’s she and Ken

moved to Stanley, ND.

Phyllis was known for

skillful card playing,

wonderful cooking (espe-

cially lefse, cheese cake, &

apple pie), and adept &

lively polka dancing.

Phyllis is survived by:

(Debbie) Vesey.
