Alice “Lorraine”
Holmes-Bloms, 96, Minot,
ND, and formerly of Lans-
ford, ND, died Sunday,
October 25, 2020 in a
Minot hospital.
Alice was born on April
6, 1924 in Raymond, SD, a
daughter of Jesse and
Margaret (Kenneally)
Hurlbert. At the age of
six, the family moved to
Eckman, ND where she at-
tended schools in Eckman
and Chatfield Township
in Bottineau County, ND,
and attended high school
in Glenburn, ND.
On October 4, 1941, she
married Milton B. Holmes
in Bottineau, ND. They
made their home in
Blaine Township, Bot-
tineau County, northwest
of Lansford, ND, where
they farmed and raised
their family. They retired
from farming in 1980. Al-
ice worked for 16 years at
Skagens Hardware and
Variety Store and also five
years at the Mohall Good
Samaritan Center as a
Certified Nursing Assis-
tant.
She was a member of
the Lansford United
Methodist Church and its
women’s group, and the
Lansford Senior Citizens
group.
Milton passed away on
May 29, 1989. On March
24, 2000, Alice married
Clarence Bloms at St.
John’s Catholic Church in
Lansford. They made
their home in Lansford
until 2011. Clarence
passed away on January 6,
2011. Alice moved to
Somerset Court in Minot
in 2012.
Alice enjoyed her time
writing the Lansford news
for the Renville County
Farmer for many years.
She enjoyed reading, cof-
fee and visiting at the
Lansford Cafe, flowers
and gardening. She espe-
cially enjoyed following
her grandkids and
great-grandkids in the
academic and sports
successes and dancing at
the Moose.
She is survived by: her
son, Jack (Truc) Holmes,
of Fallon, NV, and chil-
dren, Manon (William)
Singer, (and their chil-
dren, Cameron, Lara (and
her child, Rylan) and
Niel), and Keven Holmes
(and his children, Kate,
Rian and Ashley);
daughter, Jean (Richard)
Limke, of Minot, ND, and
their children, Jeff (Karen)
Limke, (and daughter
Heather), Jason (Cristy)
Limke, (and their chil-
dren, Cameron, Braeden
and Christian), and Aimee
(Brandon) Hodny; step-
children, Lynnette (Glen)
Cunningham, Eileen
(Curt) Schacher, Jerry
(Joyce) Bloms and
Mitchell Bloms; 11 step-
grandchildren and 11
stepgreat-grandchildren;
and sister-in-law, Bernice
Redding.
She was preceded in
death by: both of her hus-
bands; a grandson, Jesse
Holmes; brothers, Howard
Hurlbert, Lyle (Glenna)
Hurlbert, Cecil (Grace)
Hurlbert, Walter (Luella)
Hurlbert, Clifton (Janice)
Hurlbert, Roland Hurlbert
and George (Elnor) Hurl-

Elaine (Oscar) Servin;
brothers and
sisters-in-law, Lester
(Mary) Holmes, Rev. Vir-
gil (Joyce) Holmes, Shir-
ley (Myron) Knutson and
Mary Lou (Walter) Lielke;
and stepson, Kelly Bloms.
In lieu of flowers,
memorials are preferred.
A private family service
will be held Tuesday, No-
vember 3, 2020 at 10 a.m.
