Albert Boehm, 87,
Minot and longtime Minot
businessman, died on Sa-
turday, October 24, 2020
in a Minot hospital.
Albert Boehm was born
August 28, 1933 in
Karlsruhe, ND to John and
Francis (Erck) Boehm. He
grew up on the family
farm with five brothers
and graduated from
Karlsruhe High School
with the class of 1951. He
attended Dakota Business
College in Fargo for one
year before enlisting in
the United States Army
on October 23, 1953. He
served as a Supply Spe-
cialist with Battery D of
the 550th AAA Battalion
at Fort Monroe, Virginia
and was a recipient of a
Good Conduct Medal and
the National Defense Ser-
vice Medal. He received
his honorable discharge
from active duty on Oc-
tober 22, 1956 and was
transferred to the U.S.
Army Reserve until his
discharge from that mili-
tary service on September
30, 1961.
Albert was united in
marriage to Irene Rose
Roerick, June 23, 1958 in
Selz, ND.
They would call Minot
home for the rest of their
lives and were blessed
with six children. Albert
spent the early years of
his career as a bookkeeper
for Gaffney’s Office Sup-
ply, Chrysler Car Dealer-
ship and I Keating Furni-
ture World. The years
spent working for those
businesses prepared him
to go into business for
himself.
In 1976 he established
the Sofa and Sleep Shop.
The waterbed was popu-
lar in the 1970’s and
1980’s leading to a name
change for the business to
American Lifestyle, Inc.
The product was success-fully sold in Minot,
Bismarck, Dickinson and
Williston. He also ven-
tured into the world of
televisions and electronics
along with movie and
video game rentals. The
businesses included
Curtis Mathes, Hollywood
Nights Video and Mattress
Center.

St. John the Apostle
Catholic Church and Our
Lady of Grace Catholic
Church, Knights of
Columbus (4th Degree
Knight) and Eagles Aerie.
He also belonged to the
Germans from Russia Her-
itage Club. He took great
pride in his German heri-
tage. He believed, “The
record of your life is
priceless. Of all the gifts
you might share, share the
gift of your life.” He stu-
died the history of his
ancestors, traveled the
country to attend Ger-
mans from Russia confer-
ences and left the family
story of his ancestors. Al-
bert was known for his
distinct German Russian
accent.
Family was very impor-
tant to Albert. He loved
taking his children hunt-
ing and attending their ex-
tracurricular activities.
Extended family and
friends spent weekend
after weekend going to
dances and playing game
after game of Pinochle.
The competition between
the women and the men
lasted for him until the
day the doors at Somerset
Assisted Living were
closed to outsiders be-
cause of the 2019-2020
Pandemic.
His love and support
continued with his
grandchildren by attend-
ing their many athletic
events and dance recitals.
He would often call fami-
ly members to discuss
game results. He was
very proud of his
grandchildren’s accom-
