Minot, ND formerly of
Plaza, ND passed away on
September 6, 2020.
Yvonne was born on
April 1, 1936 to Loyal and
Gertie (Wadholm) Horna-
day in Van Hook, ND.
She was the eldest of 10
children. She was named
after her grandmother
Charlotte, her great grand-
mother Jensine, pro-
nounced Yensine, and
after her grandmother
Ella. She was raised in
Parshall, ND and attended
a country school up to the
8th grade, and then later
obtained her GED.
Yvonne met the love of
her life Arnold on Sep-
tember 3, 1954 at a dance
in Plaza, ND. They wed
on December 11, 1954 at
Emmanuel Lutheran
church in Parshall, ND.
The newlyweds lived in
Plaza with Arnold’s
parents before moving on
to Minot, ND and then
later to Grand Forks, ND.
This is where they began
their family. They were
blessed with 4 daughters.
Katheryn, Kyanne, Keri
and Kristi. The family
lived in various places be-
fore settling back in the
area where their love be-
gan.
In the early years,
Yvonne and Arnold
worked together as a
team. They worked in the
meat processing industry,
managed a resort in New-
town, ND called “Sanish
Bay Recreation Area”.
They also owned and
operated 2 restaurants
(one in Plaza, ND and the
other in Parshall, ND).
Yvonne eventually began
her career at Northrop
Gruman Corporation
where she worked until
retirement.
Yvonne was very com-
petitive by nature and
loved playing cards and
games with her family
and friends. She was
known to have the Scrab-
ble dictionary on hand
and loved winning every
chance she got. Yvonne
loved to read, crochet,
and do word puzzles. If
you ever went to a rumm-
age sale with her, you had
better have your running
shoes on because she al-
ways had to beat you
there to find the best
treasure.
