Erling A. Dolan age 90,
of Crosby, ND passed
away peacefully on Fri-
day, September 25, 2020
at his home in Crosby.
Funeral services will be
2:00 PM on Friday, Oc-
tober 2, 2020 at Concordia
Lutheran Church in Cros-
by with Pastors Zachariah
and Emily Shipman as
co-officiants with social
distancing. Burial will fol-
low at Concordia Luth-
eran Cemetery in Crosby.
Visitation will be from
3:00 PM to 7:00 PM on
Thursday, at the funeral
home. Fellowship with
cake and coffee will fol-
low burial at the senior
center.
Erling was born on the
family farm in Troy
Township on May 12,
1930 to Aslak and Josie
(Throntveit) Dolan. He at-
tended grade school at
Lexington and went on to
graduate from Crosby
High School in 1947. Er-
ling attended Minot State
College for one year be-
fore coming home to farm
in 1954. He started his
farming career by renting
one quarter of land and
continued to farm until
his retirement in 2008.
Erling was united in
marriage to Marlys Marie
Berg on July 1, 1963 at
Immanuel Lutheran
Church in rural Ambrose.
Erling helped to build a
new house and they
raised their four children
on the same farmstead
where he was raised.
The family includes
children, Brad (Jacque-
line), Mary (Mike)
Ehrmantraut, Eileen
(Paul) Dolan Gillund, and
Sheila (Aaron). Erling
was blessed with eight
grandchildren; Nicole and
Jake Dolan; Jason (Ashley)
and Taylor (Lauren)
Ehrmantraut; Josie and
Carson Gillund and
Jocelyn and Cameron
Riebe. Erling also has one
great-grandchild, Rylan
Ehrmantraut.
Erling was proud of all
of his family members
and loved when family
was able to make it home.
Marlys and Erling enjoyed
farm life until 2011 when
they moved to a new
house in Crosby. They
continued to keep up the
farmhouse for visits from
children, grandchildren
and other family
members.
Erling was involved in
many activities in the
community over the years
including serving on
several boards. He served
on the Township Board,
the FHA Committee, The
Burke-Divide Electric
Board (27 years total and
25 of those as the
secretary-treasurer). He
also proudly served 15
years on the REC State-
wide Board including 2
years on the Executive
Committee. Erling was
elected as a Trustee of
Concordia Lutheran
Church and signed for the
mortgage when building
the church. Later, he
proudly assisted in burn-
ing the church mortgage.
Erling was was elected to
the church council for
several terms and enjoyed
spending time teaching
Sunday School and was
the Circuit Luther League
president where he spent
time working with Luther
League students. In more
recent years, he enjoyed
working at the Concordia
Lutefisk dinners, going to
Sons of Norway, attending
morning Bible study and
meeting with his morning
coffee group. Erling was a
lifetime member of Con-
cordia Lutheran Church
and was both baptized
and confirmed there.
Erling was preceded in
death by: his parents, As-
lak and Josie; and his si-
blings, Alice, Oscar, Joe,
Stanley and Marie Ann.
Erling is survived by:
his wife Marlys, his four
children and their
spouses, eight grandchil-
dren, one great grandchild
and numerous nieces and
nephews.
