Agnes Larcombe
July 18, 1921-Sept. 4, 2020
Agnes Larcombe
(Burke) of Minot passed
away on September 4th at
Edgewood Vista Memory
Care.
Agnes was born to John
and Carrie Burke (St.
Peter) on July 18, 1921 in
Hartland, North Dakota.
She moved to the “big
city” of Minot to attend
St. Leo’s beginning in 9th
grade, graduated from
Minot Business College,
and worked at Minot Dai-
ly News.
She met her husband,
Charles Larcombe, of
Southampton, England, in
1943. Charles, a World
War II Royal Air Force pi-
lot instructor, was sta-
tioned in Estevan,
Saskatchewan and was in-
troduced to Agnes
through mutual friends on
the 4th of July. It was love
at first hand shake, as
Agnes informed friends
that day, “I just met the
man I’m going to marry.”
Charles was sent back
into the World War II Eu-
ropean theater, but they
wrote regularly. Charles
asked her to marry, so
Agnes took the Queen El-
izabeth steamship to Eng-
land in 1946 and the farm
girl married the brave
British airman.
The couple, plus first
child Carolynn (Peterson),
returned to Berthold in
1948 and eventually set-
tled in Minot. Sons Rich
and Wayne soon followed.
Agnes later returned to
work at Lowe’s Printing,
Dean Witter, Bremer
(American Bank), and
Choice Hotels. The
Larcombe’s were charter
members of Little Flower
parish. Charles passed
away in 1988.
Agnes spent countless
hours volunteering for the
Little Flower Finance
Committee and Trinity
Hospital/Nursing Home.
The Larcombe’s took
numerous trips back to
Charles’ native England
and also enjoyed visiting
Las Vegas. In later years,
Agnes visited friends,
family, and religious sites
in Illinois, Florida,
Hawaii, Switzerland, and
Rome.
Agnes is survived by:
her three children, Caro-
lynn (Jon) Peterson, Rich
(Cindy) Larcombe, and
Wayne (Lola) Larcombe;
five grandchildren, Brian
and Kevin (Jennifer)
Peterson, Dan, Jackie, and
Katy Larcombe; three
great-grandchildren, Pay-
ton, Brady, and Ace,
nephew Bill (Elaine)
Burke, and nieces Jean
Stewart and Gwenda Har-
man.
Agnes was preceded in
death by: her parents;
husband Charles, brother
Gene (Ethel) Burke, and
nephew Jerry Burke.
Agnes is greatly missed
by family and friends, but
her positive demeanor
and example of true faith,
even in the face of hard-
ship, remain forever in
their hearts.
