Floy Huizenga
April 28, 1931-June 9, 2020
Floy S. Huizenga, 89,
Henderson, NV, passed
away Tuesday, June 9,
2020, in St. Rose Domini-
can Hospital following
emergency heart surgery.
Floy Loretta Strain was
born on April 28, 1931,
the daughter of Floyd T.
and Laura O. (Meland)
Strain at home in Minot,
ND. She was raised in
Minot and attended
Washington Elementary
School, was confirmed at
Zion Lutheran Church
and graduated from Minot
High School in 1949.
Floy married Devane
Maurine Langseth on June
29, 1949, at Zion Lutheran
Church, Minot. From this
marriage, their three chil-
dren, Melody, Laurel, and
Darwin were born. After
many years, they di-
vorced.
Floy began her banking
career at First National
Bank starting as a bank
teller and retired as a vice
president at the same
bank.
Floy was an active
member of Zonta, Sweet
Adelines, and Beta Sigma
Phi. She was the first
woman to serve as a coun-
cil member on the Zion
Lutheran Church Board.
She was one of the first
two women to attain the
title of vice president at
First National Bank. She
also acted as a Big Sister
in the Big Sister, Big
Brother Program in Minot.
Floy always put her
family first. She was a
loving and devoted
daughter, sister, wife,
sister-in-law, aunt, moth-
er, grandmother, and
great-grandmother. Floy
spent hours searching for
the perfect cards for fami-
ly members’ birthdays
and other special occa-
sions. She will be fondly
and lovingly remembered
for her warm and loving
nature, her beautiful
smile and for the beautiful
Christmas stockings she
created for multiple gen-
erations of her family.
Floy ensured her chil-
dren were exposed to mu-
sical endeavors to include
musical instruments,
dancing, and singing at
church.
She nursed Devane
back to health twice: fol-
lowing the removal of a
brain tumor and several
years later after a traumat-ic brain injury.
Floy married Roger
Huizenga October 26,
1980, at Little Church of
the West in Las Vegas,
NV. They were happily
married for 40 years resid-
ing in San Marcos, CA,
and then later moved to
Henderson, NV. Floy as-
sisted in the care of Roger
after multiple surgeries in
recent years. Floy and
Roger enjoyed playing
Bingo regularly with a
group of close friends.
