Darwin Helmers, 82,
Minot, ND, formerly of
Donnybrook, ND, passed
away Monday, July 6,
2020, at his home with his
family by his side.
Darwin James Helmers
was born June 21, 1938,
in Renville County, North
Dakota. He was the son of
John and Alice (Hansen)
Helmers. When growing
up, Darwin attended the
Trinity Evangelical Luth-
eran Church in Tolley,
ND, where he was bap-
tized and confirmed.
Darwin graduated from
Donnybrook High School
in 1956.
Darwin was once mar-
ried to Arlene Bangs and
from that union three
children were born: Dan,
Sara and Teresa. Darwin
then married Regena
“Jeanne” Ellingson on Au-
gust 15, 2003 at St. Leo
the Great Roman Catholic
Church in Minot, ND.
They continued to live in
rural Minot.
Darwin ran the grain
elevator in Coulee, ND for
a period of time. He then
started his own meat shop
in Donnybrook and later
moved it to Kenmare, ND.
His last job was as
manager of the grain
elevator in Carpio, ND. He
retired from that position
when he turned 60 with
declining health.
Darwin loved to dance
and he and Jeanne spent
many Saturday nights at
Mouse River Park. He also
enjoyed hunting and fish-
ing, and in his earlier
years, camping with his
family. After retirement,
Darwin took up wood-
working. He made many
items for their home and
for his daughters as well.
Darwin’s children and
grandchildren were al-
ways a very important
part of his life.

Matthew Helmers, Jamie
Sortino, Jonathan Sortino,
Austin Schatz, Wyatt
Schatz, Taylor (Shelby)
Egeberg and Tanner Ege-
berg; great-grandchildren,
Axyl, Aizyn, Hendryx and
Haylen Braun, Oaklyn
Egeberg, and one more
due in January of 2021;
Jeanne’s children, Theresa
(Ron) Bolinske and their
children Aaron, Evan and
Cameron, and Sherry
(Jack) Oldenburg and
their children, Caitlin and
James; sister, Darlene
King, of Ohio.
Darwin was preceded
in death by: his parents,
John and Alice Helmers;
brothers, Allen (La-
Vonne), Eddie (Millie)
and Lyle (Margie); sister,
Ethel (Gerald) Lawson;
and daughter-in-law, Di-
ane Helmers, who passed
away shortly after Darwin.
Funeral: Tuesday, July
14, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at
Trinity Evangelical Luth-
eran Church, Tolley, ND.
Graveside Service:
Tuesday, July 14, 2020, at
3:00 pm at Lakeview
Cemetery, Kenmare, ND.
