Lila Thompson
Nov. 14, 1919-June 22, 2020
Lila Thompson, 100,
Minot, ND, formerly of
Upham, ND, passed away
Monday, June 22, 2020, in
a Minot care center.
Lila Gay Kitzman was
born November 14, 1919,
the daughter of Edwin
and Emelia (Wittmayer)
Kitzman, in Upham, ND.
She was raised in the Up-
ham area and attended
the Wahl and Deep River
country schools. She was
confirmed at Bethlehem
Lutheran Church of Up-
ham in 1933.
Lila married Maynard
Thompson on December
29, 1938. They made their
home on the Thompson
Family Farm SW of Up-
ham from 1938 – 1976.
They moved to Upham in
1976 and resided there
until Lila moved to Minot
in the fall of 1996, follow
ing Maynard’s passing.
Lila was once a member
of Bethlehem Lutheran
Church of Upham, where
she was a member of the
Lutheran Women’s Mis-
sionary League (LWML),
taught Sunday School and
sang in the church choir.
She also belonged to the
Little Deep Club and the
American Legion Auxili-
ary of Upham. She was a
member of St. Mark’s
Lutheran Church of
Minot, where she
belonged to the LWML,
Quilters, Naomi Circle
and the Funeral Commit-
tee.
Lila loved going for
drives in the country with
Maynard; looking at crops
and seeing things grow.
Anytime she could go
anywhere, she was ready
to go. Taking care of many
neighbors at supper time
was done a lot in their
house. She loved going to
church on Sunday; it was
probably the highlight of
her week. Another favor-
ite pastime was spending
time with her family and
friends. She was always
there to help anyone in
need.
