Lorraine E. Johnson –
92, Bismarck, formerly of
Kenmare, ND, died Mon-
day, May 18, 2020, at the
Edgewood Bismarck on
Dominion, following a
courageous battle with
pancreatic cancer.
Lorraine E. Jensen was
born on April 28, 1928, a
daughter of France and
Catherine (Bendel) Jessen
on the family farm near
Kenmare, ND. She was
raised and educated in
Kenmare, graduating from
Kenmare High School in
1945. She furthered her
education by attending
business college in Minot.
On November 26, 1950,
Lorraine was united in
marriage to Stuart K.
Johnson in Kenmare.
They made their home in
Coos Bay, OR, for nearly
two years until returning
to Norma, ND, where they
raised their two daughters
and farmed. Lorraine also
worked as the bookkeeper
for Farmers Union Oil
Company for over thirty
years, and as a book-
keeper for her husbands
farming interests and
business, Johnson Exca-
vating. Stuart died April
4, 2003. Lorraine contin-
ued to live in Kenmare
until October of 2019,
when she moved to
Bismarck to be closer to
family.
She was an active
member of the Evanger
Lutheran Church and its
ladies aide. She enjoyed
attending the Kenmare
Senior Citizens Center,
playing board games,
bowling, ceramics, cook-
ing, baking, quilting, cro-
cheting, and gardening.
She was a wonderful
mother, grandmother,
great-grandmother, and
friend and will be missed
by all that knew her.
Lorraine is survived by:
Two daughters Marla
(Iver) Eliason, Garrison,
ND, Nancy (Doyle) Em-
mel, Bismarck, ND; Four
grandchildren: Katie
North, Kristie Eliason,
Kelli Jo (Wade) Hatzen-
buehler, and Kyle Stuart
(Olivia) Emmel; Eight
great-grandchildren: Jen-
nifer North, Emily North,
Erik Eliason, Hannah
Hatzenbuehler, Hayden
Stuart Hatzenbuehler,
Hunter Hatzenbuehler,
Holton Hatzenbuehler,
Adeline Emmel;
Sister-in-law Betty John-
son, Kenmare, ND;Several
nieces, nephews and
cousin also survive.
Lorraine was preceded
in death by her parents,
husband Stuart, an infant
daughter, siblings Robert
Jessen, Janette Durham
and Marilyn Smith.

eral service will take place
at the Evanger Lutheran
Church, rural Norma, ND.
A Public Graveside Ser-
vice will be held on Fri-
day, May 22, 2020 at 1:35
pm at the Evanger
Cemetery, rural Norma,
