Kurry-Swartwout, 76,

Minot, ND, passed away

Monday, May 18, 2020, in

a Minot hospital.

Karen Ann Owens was

born November 6, 1943,

the daughter of George

and Barbara (Stark)

Owens, in Minot, ND. She

was raised and educated

in Minot.

Karen married Bill Kur-

ry (USAF) in 1962 in

Minot, ND. They made

their home in Minot and

Raymond, Maine. From

this union, three sons

were born. The couple

would later divorce.

Karen married Jimmie

Swartwout in 1986 and

became a blended family

with Karen’s three boys

and Jimmie’s three chil-

dren.

Karen attended Minot

State University and re-

ceived her Bachelor’s De-

gree in Nursing and later

her Masters in Psycholo-

gy. She started out doing

secretarial work on the

Minot Air Force Base and

Radar Base. She then

went on to work at

Bachmeier Counseling,

Trinity Mental Health and

was a counselor under Fa-

ther Walter at St. Leo the

Great Roman Catholic

Church. She also volun-

teered her time at Trinity

Nursing Home.

Karen and Jimmie could

often be found playing

bingo, on the dance floor

or attending church at St.

John the Apostle Catholic

Church of Minot. She and

Jimmie enjoyed traveling,

especially riding the train.

They liked to watch ball

games. Karen especially

enjoyed watching her

sons perform in their

bands!

cludes: Husband, Jimmie

Swartwout, Minot; sons,

Lonny Kurry, Minot; Lee

(Jane) Kurry, Phoenix, AZ

and Toby Kurry, Minot;

step-children, Jimmy Dee

(Anna) Swartwout, CA,

Shawn (Nicole)

Swartwout, Minot and

Serena (Chris) Keller, Ger-

many; and grandchildren,

Tasia Rae Kurry, St.

Cloud, MN, Tyler Kola-

baken, Minot, Bill Kurry,

Phoenix, AZ and Diana

Kurry, Phoenix, AZ.

Karen was preceded in

death by her parents; and

sisters, Donna Boley, Geri

Ellis and Rochelle Grant.

Private Mass of Chris-

tian Burial: Wednesday,

May 27, 2020, at 10:00

a.m. at St. John the Apos-

tle Catholic Church,

Minot, ND. The Funeral
