Lynn Ferguson
Jan. 27, 1945 – Apr. 22, 2020
Lynn Ferguson, 75,
Minot, ND, formerly of
rural Tioga, passed away
peacefully on Wednesday,
April 22, 2020, at his
home surrounded by his
loving family after a year-
long battle with COPD
while under hospice care.
Lynn Alan Ferguson
was born January 27, 1945
to Fred and Florence
(Gustafson) Ferguson in
Williston, ND. He grew up
the middle child, with his
two sisters, on the family
farm south of Tioga, ND.
Lynn was baptized and
confirmed in the Beaver
Creek Free Lutheran
Church. He attended
grade school at the Hof-
flund country school and
later went on to graduate
from Tioga High School.
He had a very active
childhood while growing
up on the farm. Although
there was a lot of hard
work, there was always
time to create many fun
memories; whether it was
swimming in the creek or
skiing down the hills.
This mentality suited
Lynn well in life, as he al-
ways worked hard to get
the job done, but loved to
enjoy the lighter side of
life.
Lynn was united in
marriage to his high
school sweetheart, Vivian
Carole Olson, on August
16, 1962 in Estevan, SK.
To this union they wel-
comed their son, Daniel
Lee. They made their
home on the family farm
where Lynn farmed and
ranched with his dad. In
1965 he began working for
Anders Heimdal Con-
struction, where he
learned the carpentry
trade. Five years later he
formed his own company,
Ferguson Construction,
while continuing to farm
and ranch until his retire-ment.
Over the years Lynn
and Vivian enjoyed travel-
ing around the country-
side in their motorhome,
downhill skiing, golfing
and visiting with their
friends. He especially en-
joyed bowling, playing
cards, cheering on the
Kansas City Chiefs and
meeting up with his
breakfast buddies at
Schatz Crossroads. Lynn
was an avid fisherman
and hunter who brought
home many trophies that
he was very proud of.
In 2007, Lynn and Vivi-
an turned their ranching
operation over to their
grandson and his family,
then moved off the farm
to Minot, ND. During
their retirement they had
more time to spend with
their 3 grandchildren and
9 great-grandchildren.
Lynn was a loving and
generous husband, father,
grandfather and
great-grandfather. God
and family meant every-
thing to him and he was
everything to his family.
Lynn is survived by:
His loving wife of almost
58 years, Vivian, Minot,
ND; son, Daniel (Debra
“Lil”) Ferguson, Tioga,
ND; grandson, Layne (Ma-
linda) Ferguson and their
children, Abagail, Harper,
Audrey and Cooper, all of
Tioga, ND; granddaughter,
April (Caleb) Eide and
their children, Quincee
and Rhett, all of Minot,
ND; granddaughter, Min-
dy (Levi) Cabler and their
children, Cady, Gunner
and Jace, all of Williston,
ND; sisters, Shirley Groth,
Benson, AZ, and Bonnie
(Paul) Haugen, Sioux
Falls, SD; and several
nieces and nephews.
Lynn was preceded in
death by his parents, Fred
and Florence Ferguson;
parents-in-law, Les and
Val Olson; and his
brothers-in-law, Dale Ol-
son, Rodney Olson, Har-
mon Olson and Henry
Groth.
All the pain and grief is
over, the restless tossing
past. I’m now at peace for-
ever, safely home at last.
