Delphine Delores Meier,
89, longtime Minot
resident, died Wednes-
day, January 22, 2020 in a
Minot hospital.
Delphine was born July
25, 1930 at Barton, North
Dakota, the daughter of
Oscar and Mathilda
(Aamodt) Thornby. She
was raised and educated
at Barton and moved with
her family to Minot dur-
ing the 1940’s. She gra-
duated from Minot High
School in 1948 and dur-
ing her younger years was
employed with the Red
Owl Grocery Store as a
bookkeeper.
Delphine was united in
marriage to Raymond
Meier on August 25, 1956
in Minot. They lived in
Bismarck for a year, be-
fore returning to Minot in
1958, where they raised
their two children. Ray-
mond died March 25,
2012. She had made her
home most recently at
Edgewood Vista and then
Trinity Homes.
Delphine enjoyed cro-
cheting, reading, traveling
and spending time at their
lake home on Lake Audu-
bon. She was a longtime
member of St. Leo’s The
Great Catholic Church,
Minot.
Delphine’s loving fami-
ly includes: children,
Steven (Jennifer) Meier,
Wellington, New Zealand
and Rebecca “Becky”
(Mark) Welsch, Surrey; 3
grandchildren to include:
John & Thomas Meier and
Jacob (Carly) Welsch;
brother, Marvin (Janet)
Thornby, Garrison.
Delphine was preceded
in death by: her parents,
husband of 56 years, Ray-
mond, along with an in-
fant daughter, Susan Ann
and a grandson, Shaun.
Funeral Service: Satur-
day, January 25, 2020 at
11:00 a.m. in Thomas
Family Funeral Home,
Minot.
Interment: Rosehill
Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Friday, Janu-
ary 24th from 4:00-6:00
p.m. in the Thomas Fami-
ly Funeral Home, Minot.
