Clarence Marshall, 93,
Minot and former long-
time Burlington/Des Lacs
area farmer, died on Sun-
day, December 29, 2019 in
a Velva care center.
Clarence LeRoy
Marshall was born on Oc-
tober 15, 1926 on the fam-
ily farm between Burling-
ton and Des Lacs, ND to
William and Hulda (Sko-
glund) Marshall. He was
raised on the farm, attend-ed rural school and gra-
duated from Burlington
High School in 1943. As
a young adult he assisted
his family with the opera-
tion of the farm.
Clarence married Carole
Anderson on April 10,
1951 in Minot. They made
their home on the family
farm in Burlington Town-
ship of Ward County.
Their first home on the
farm was a two room
bunkhouse that they lived
in for four years with 3 of
their children until they
built a house. Clarence
raised small grains and, in
his mind, never ever re-
tired. Carole and Clarence
moved into a condomini-
um in Minot in 1998 and
then to Brentmoor in
2013. Carole died on Sep-
tember 2, 2016. Most re-
cently, he had resided at
Maple View and the
Souris Valley Care Center
– Velva.
Clarence was a member
of the Des Lacs Methodist
Church, North Dakota
Farmers Union and Minot
Farmers Union Elevator
Board during the con-
struction of the main
elevator facility. Also, he
was a member of the Ea-
gles Aerie, Moose Lodge
and Elks Lodge. He espe-
cially enjoyed bowling,
reading, playing cards,
watching the Weather
Channel and caring for
animals especially strays,
but his number one pas-
sion was farming and fam-
ily.

Cadence Hystad, Carter
and Emma Marshall;
in-laws: Jeanette Marshall
of Minot; Dona Smedley
of Flagstaff AZ, Denyce
Walker of Lebanon OR
and Leona (Blaine) Janz of
Mesa AZ; one cousin and
numerous nieces and
nephews.
Clarence was preceded
in death by his parents,
wife Carole, grand-
daughters Ariel and Mari-
ah Hystad, brothers:

and twin Glenn Marshall,
sisters: Mildred (Al) Nel-
son and Ethel (John)
Behm; in-laws: Marlys
(Robert) Reiner, Arlene
(Arlie) Collier, Bill Walker
