Minot, died on Wednes-
day, November 27, 2019
in a Velva nursing care
center.
Herbert was born on
February 25, 1933 on the
family farm in rural
McLean County, North
Dakota the son of Christ
and Christine (Bonnet)
Wanner. He was raised on
the family ranch near
Mercer, ND, where he at-
tended country schools
through the eighth grade
and later received his
GED. He assisted with the
operation of the family
farm and became a local
rancher in McLean Coun-
ty. In 1956, he became a
minister in the Church of
God and pastored
churches in North Dakota,
South Dakota, Washing-
ton, New Mexico, Wiscon-sin and Missouri.
Herb was united in
marriage to Melvie Lasher
on July 20, 1956 at
McClusky. Throughout
the years, they made their
home at various places in-
cluding, Mercer, ND;
Garrison, ND; Coal
Springs, SD; Grandview,
WA; Everett, WA, Grants,
NM; West Bend, WI; Reed
Spring, MO; and Minot,
ND.
The family moved to
Minot in 1976, where he
worked at Northwest Bi-
ble College. In 1982, Herb
and Melvie went to pastor
in West Bend, Wisconsin
and Reed Springs, Mis-
souri before returning to
Minot in 1990. He contin-ued to pastor at local rural
churches. In addition, he
worked for the
Mid-Dakota Chapter of the
American Red Cross and
Ward County Green
Thumb. Melvie and Herb
became residents of Edge-
wood Vista in October of
2018. Melvie passed away
August 22, 2019.
Herb was a member of
the West Minot Church of
God and was active
throughout the years as
chairman of the Minot
Festival in the Parks for
the 4th of July. He and
Melvie enjoyed traveling
extensively along with do-
ing yard work, hunting
and fishing. Herb enjoyed
serving the Lord through
his volunteer opportuni-
ties wherever he lived. He
left every church building
and parsonage in better
condition than when he
arrived.
His loving family in-
cludes: children, Corinne
(Glen) Sayler, Arizona,
JoEllen (Jim) Hallmark,
Noblesville, IN and Tim
(Denice) Wanner, Minot;
grandchildren, Christo-
pher Sayler, Nicholas
Sayler, Steven (Michelle)
Hallmark, Joshua (Rachel)
Hallmark, Eric (Krystal)
Wanner, Evan (Misty)
Wanner and Stephi (Jef-
frey) Leeson;
great-grandchildren,
Olivia & Sophia Hallmark,
Danielle & Allison Hall-
mark, Dylan & Dawson
Wanner, Victoria Leeson,
expected baby Wanner,
Eric Smith; siblings, Ted
(Doris) Wanner, Bismarck,
ND, Helen Grosz, McClu-
sky, ND along with
several nieces, nephews
and cousins.
Herb was preceded in
death by: his parents;
wife of 63 years, Melvie;
brother, John Wanner; sis-
ters Ruth Vogel, Marion
Geigle, Lillian Bentz; and
an infant sister.
Celebration of Life ser-
vice: Tuesday, December
3, 2019 at noon in West
Minot Church of God.
