2019 in his home.
Charles Avery Bovee, Jr.
(Chick) was born in
Jamestown, ND on June 6,
1930, the son of Charles
and Cassie (Oothoudt)
Bovee. He was raised and
educated in Jamestown,
and he graduated from
Jamestown High School in
1948. In high school, he
met the love of his life,
Mary Parkhouse.
On February 8, 1950,
Charles was united in
marriage to Mary Jane
Parkhouse. They moved
to Minot where Charles
worked as a conductor for
the Great Northern Rail-
road. This later became
the Burlington Northern
Railroad. He retired fol-
lowing 44 years of service.
Together they raised their
family of four children.
Chick enjoyed many
hours at lake cabins be-
longing to his sister, Ina
and son, Steven. He loved
sitting on the patio for
cocktail hour and enjoyed
campfires. At the lake, he
learned to fish, and he al-
ways enjoyed catching the
biggest one. We won’t
mention that his rod was
in the rod holder most of
the time. Chick also en-
joyed watching his son,
Steven, and grandson Jae-
son, play sports. Later in
life, he enjoyed watching
and following all of his
grandchildren in any
sports in which they par-
ticipated. He loved watch-
ing sports on TV and was
an avid Detroit Tigers,
NDSU and Vikings fan.
Chick enjoyed playing pi-
nochle with his buddies
at the Moose Lodge. He
and his son Steven, spent
many fun hours playing
as pinochle partners. He
always made it a goal to
beat his wife and
daughter-in-law, Susie.
Chick also played pool for
many years. At one time,
both of his sons played on
