Marvin D. Odland

Marvin David Odland
was born in Grand Forks,
ND November 21, 1925
and died peacefully No-
vember 11, 2019.
He graduated from Cen-
tral High School in Grand
Forks and from Gustavus
Adolphus College in St.
Peter, Minnesota which
he attended under the
Navy V-12 program. Mar-
vin graduated from the
Luther Seminary in St
Paul, Minnesota in 1949.
He served his first parish
in Harvey, North Dakota
until 1953 moving to
Bethany Lutheran Church
in Minot where he served
for 17 years. He then be-
came the Chaplin at Trini-
ty Medical Center for
another 17 years. On his
retirement in 1987, he
moved to Hot Springs Vil-
lage, Arkansas, where he
indulged his passion for
golf, and then later moved
to Richfield, Minnesota.
At Gustavus, Marvin
met Phyllis Peterson.
They were married Au-
gust 23, 1947, raised four
children, and enjoyed
over 72 years of marriage.
Marvin and Phyllis en-
joyed traveling and al-
ways remembered their
six-week trip to Europe in
1963 and a number of
wonderful cruise experi-
ences. Marvin was a
member of Lions Club
International for over 50
years and was named a
Melvin Jones Fellow in
1993.
Marvin was preceded in
death by daughter Anne;
and is survived by his
wife, Phyllis; children Da-
vid (Susan) Odland, Linda
(Jim) Brown and Mark
(Rebecca) Odland;
grandchildren Jeffery,
Erik, Amy and Adam; and
five great-grandchildren.
