Junior Hiller

Junior Everett Hiller,

94, Granville, passed

away at Souris Valley

Care Center in Velva, ND,

surrounded by his family

on Sunday, November 17,

2019.

Junior was born on Sep-

tember 30, 1925 in Sim-

coe, ND, son of Harry and

Matilda Hiller. He was

raised in Granville and

graduated from Granville

High School in 1943.

After graduation, he went

to Portland, Oregon, to

work in the shipyard. In

the fall of 1943, he enlist-

ed in the US Marine

Corps and served until

1947. When he returned

home, he worked with his

father at Hiller’s Garage

until the spring of 1947,

when he purchased the

City Service Station,

which he sold in 1950. In

the fall of 1947, he started

working for the US

government as a substi-

tute rural mail carrier and

in 1950, he became the

permanent rural carrier

and worked for 38 years

until his retirement in

1980. In the afternoons,

he helped various farmers

in the area and also

worked at the hardware

store. In 1973, he pur-

chased Hank’s Grocery

Store, changing the name

to Hiller’s Food Market

which they owned and

operated for 13 years. In

1986, they sold the store

and finally retired.

On July 31, 1947, he

was united in marriage to

Gladys Austad. They had

five children, Bonnie,

Donny, Cindy, Penny and

Todd.

He was an active

member with First Luth-

eran Church, serving as

treasurer, Sunday school

teacher and board

member for several years.

He also served on the

school board, ran the

clock for home basketball

games, coached little

league baseball and was

auditor for the city. For 30

years, they enjoyed the

winters in Arizona with

family and friends.

He enjoyed fishing,

hunting, golfing, bowling,

afternoons in the Gran-

ville Senior Center and

countless games of cards.

His loving family in-

cludes: wife of 72 years,

Gladys; children, Bonnie

McNeely (Dale Neuhal-

fen), Penny (Kent)

Krebsbach and Todd Hill-

er (Vickie Fettig);

daughter-in-law, Kathy

Hiller; sister, Ardelle Hil-

lerud; sister-in-law, Pat

Hiller; 17 grandchildren;

22 great-grandchildren; 5

great-great-grandchildren;

along with many nieces,

nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in

death by daughter, Cindy;

son, Donald; grandson,

Chad; parents, Harry and

Matilda; sisters, Alvina

(Klem) Brunner and Arlys

(Jeff) Pennington; broth-

ers, Homer (Doris) Hiller

and Johnny Hiller;

mother-in-law and

father-in-law, Annie and

Louis Hanson; and

brother-in-law, Stener

“Short” Hillerud.

Funeral: Saturday, No-

vember 23, 2019, at 10:30

a.m. at First Lutheran-

Church, Granville.

Interment: Granville

Community Cemetery,

Granville, ND.

Visitation: Friday from

3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at

Thompson-Larson Fun-

eral Home, Minot.

Family Prayer Service:

Friday at 5:30 p.m. at

eral Home, Minot.
